Quarterly Magazine to Feature Favorite Family Destinations

Gearing up for peak family travel time, RTX Traveler will feature top family destinations in its upcoming issues. The quarterly magazine is for members of global timeshare exchange company Resort Travel & Xchange (RTX).

“RTX knows family schedules are packed, and every vacation minute really counts,” says Sara Little, editor, RTX Traveler. “That is why the RTX Traveler summer and fall issues will be filled with many of the best family vacation ideas. Summer In The Berkshires

The summer edition, due out in June, will take readers to the green hills of Western Massachusetts, a fantasyland of rushing rivers and gorges, cutting between rounded mountain peaks. A century ago, this region boasted famous residents like novelist Herman Melville and poet Emily Dickinson. Today, the Berkshires are an epicenter for arts, culture and outdoor fun.

Here, families find culture without pretension. The region is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood in Lenox. This 200-plus-acre venue draws thousands of people for world-class performances. Bring a blanket for a picnic on the lawn, while taking in the music and cool summer breezes. In North Adams, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art has kid-friendly concerts and events. For outdoor enthusiasts, recreation is easy to find, including swimming and canoeing in mountain lakes and hiking and horseback riding on picturesque New England trails. Little engineers can marvel at the sights aboard a restored electric-diesel locomotive at the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum in Lenox, offering rides throughout the summer.

Fall for Lake Tahoe

RTX Traveler fall issue, slated for September, spotlights this region, rimmed by the Sierra Madre Mountains of California and Nevada. The year-round family playground bursts with fall color, from its golden aspens, maples, oak and more against a backdrop of incredibly blue water. It’s no wonder Mark Twain wrote of his visit there, “It must surely be the fairest picture the whole earth affords.” In modern Tahoe, visitors find, not only heaps of snowy fun, but also pristine beaches, world-class dining and a fabulously long list of family adventures.

From hiking up mountains to strolling along the shores, endless trails serve up spectacular mountain and lake views. One of the region’s favorite spots, Emerald Bay, combines stunning vistas with easy trails good for little legs. Take the one-mile descending trail to Vikingsholm Castle at the head of the Bay, featuring amazing history and architecture and giant lawns for running around. The Lake Tahoe region has world-class mountain biking for novices through experienced roadies. Thrill-seeking older kids love whitewater rafting down the Truckee River. Hot air ballooning over the lake at dawn offers a whole new perspective. Squaw Valley Ski Area in Squaw Valley is yet another adventure wonderland, with hiking, biking, and the Aerial Tram serving up jaw-dropping views.
