In 2014, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s World Heritage List inscribed Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex in Ninh Binh Province. The Trang An complex composes of the Trang An ecotourism site, Tam Coc – Bich Dong, Bai Dinh pagoda – the largest of its kind in the country – and Hoa Lu, Vietnam’s former capital in the 10th and 11th centuries. In March 2016, Kong: Skull Island movie’s cast and crew came to Cha Noi Valley, Yen Phu Lake and Chuot Cave for filming.

Ninh Binh is surrounded by a stunning landscape of lush green paddy fields and striking limestone outcrops. The spectacular Trang An Complex is the perfect combination of limestone karst peaks permeated with valleys, many of which partly submerged and surrounded by steep, almost vertical cliffs. Tam Coc caves boasts surreal beauty along the Ngo Dong River, but it is also immensely popular with domestic tourists. Tam Coc is charmingly beautiful in any season, especially in spring, bright green rice fields spread along the river banks, turning into silky yellow beds in the fourth lunar month. The limestone outcrops amid serene rice paddies are best appreciated on a languorous row-boat ride. The three-hour boat excursion begins at the village of Van Lam and proceeds through a scenic landscape dominated by rice fields and karst towers.

Popularly known as the largest pagoda of Vietnam, Bai Dinh pagoda is also the biggest gold – plated copper of Asia and the longest lobby in Asia. The legendary ancient capital of Viet Nam, Hoa Lu is famous for the number of palaces, pagodas, tombs and pavilions that were built by different dynasties. The temples in Hoa Lu are dedicated to King Dinh and King Le, the two heroes who lived in 10th century and chose Hoa Lu to build the citadel of the capital city. Surrounded by several limestone cliffs, Cuc Phuong National Park is the first national park in Vietnam. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from December to April.
