Top 10 Reasons to Visit Cornwall

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

With 5 million tourists visiting each year, and a lot of things to do, Cornwall is a place you must visit, at least once in a lifetime.

A delightful and stunningly beautiful place to be, with a mild year-round climate, here are 10 reasons you should definitely visit the ever-vibrant Cornwall:

1. Beaches

Surrounded by water on three sides (Celtic sea to the north and west, and the English Channel to the south), Cornwall is a real haven for beach lovers. Some even claim it has too many beaches to be fair to the whole country.

Whatever your taste is in beaches, you’ll definitely find one (or more) for you from amongst the many clear and colorful beaches in Cornwall – from coves for the strong hearted, to beaches with long expanse of sand perfect for soaking up the sun quietly.

2. Gardens

With a lot of beautiful gardens, like the historic Lost Gardens of Heligan, the spacey tropical biomes of the Eden Project, the enchanting Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden, the tourist-favorite Lanhydrock House and Garden, and the amazing Trebah Garden, to name few, if scenic gardens are your thing, then you’ll be spoilt for choice in Cornwall.

3. Food

With a very strong culinary heritage, and boasting of world-class famous chefs, like TV chef Rick Stein, Paul Ainsworth, Nathan Outlaw, etc, Cornwall is the home of food lovers. Seafood is plentiful, as expected, and because the soil in Cornwall supports grass growth more than other plants, dairy is also abundant in Cornwall.

Fish and chips, and famous dishes like the (original) Cornish pasty – which is the national dish of Cornwall, the Stargazy pie, the Cornish ice-cream and Cream tea, amongst others, are foods to be tasted in Cornwall holidays.

5. Surfing

With so much water and surf schools in Cornwall, you’ll enjoy surfing on a Cornwall vacay, even if you’re a beginner. Cornwall’s good weather is absolutely perfect for surfing. And it’s bad weather? Makes it more fun.

6. History

Stone circles and holy wells of Celtic roots, wrecked and mothballed ships on historic harbors, tons of castles, ancient Pagan festivals still flourishing, exciting museums, Merlin’s cave, King Arthur’s old gaff and Slaughter Bridge of his (rumored) last day, Dozmary Pool – the legendary resting place of ‘Excalibur’, and countless more, Cornwall has an abundance of history – historic and prehistoric sites that will send you right back to the “olden days”.

7. Castles

Yes, I mentioned castles in the last point, but Cornwall has too many castles to not give them their separate listing.

From the Pendennis Castle to the Trematon Castle, Launceston Castle, Restormel Castle, and more – all with their own unique medieval history, if you’re really into castles, Cornwall is simply a dreamland for you.

8. Beer!

I’ve talked about food generally, but this list will be incomplete without giving the Cornish beer its own spot.

Cornwell has a lot of great beer, coming from famous breweries like Sharp, St. Austell, and Skinner, and tons of other less famous breweries.

If you’re a beer lover, then Cornwall is paradise!

9. The Minack Theatre

While this list contains categories like “food” and “castles”, some specific attractions deserve their own distinct spots, like the Minack theatre. Visiting the Minack Theatre is, according to TripAdvisor, the number one thing tourists do in Cornwall.

A reviewer described the theatre as: “An open air theatre built in the rock above the beautiful Porthcurno Beach. Privately Owned, and lovingly-looked after, a real gem.” And trust me, I couldn’t have done more justice to its description.

Make sure you don’t miss it on your next Cornish holiday. You can catch live entertainment between May and September.

10. Internet

In case you didn’t know, Cornwall homes and businesses have about the fastest internet connections in the UK (well over 24mbps) – thanks to the Superfast Cornwall project completed in 2015.

You can’t live without the internet? You’ll be pampered in Cornwall.

These are just 10 out of the hundreds of reasons (really) to visit Cornwall– there are others like having the most beautiful road in the world (B3306 from St Ives to St Just). Only a visit can truly reveal Cornwall to you.
