What We Eat on Super Bowl Sunday

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Can you believe it, another Super Bowl is upon us? It feels like it was just New Years, and here we are in February already.

Besides Thanksgiving, this might be the biggest day for consuming calories. It’s not uncommon for viewers to eat close to 2,500 calories alone during the game.

Here is an estimate of what we eat on Super Bowl Sunday.

-Pizza: Super Bowl is the 2nd biggest day of the year for Pizza delivery. Pizza hut expects to sell over 2 million pizzas, and Domino’s over 12 million slices.  Keep in mind this is just 2 of the companies that sell pizza.

-An estimated 14 billion hamburgers will be consumer.

-Like guacamole with your chips? Then you’re not alone because 139 million pounds of avocados are eaten during Super Bowl Sunday.

-Don’t forget the chips as 11.2 million pounds of chips are consumed. This equates to 293,000 miles of potato chips if they were laid out end to end.

-If you don’t like regular chips, you can contribute to the 8.2 million pounds of tortilla chips that are eaten.

-Over 8 million pounds of popcorn is eaten on Super Bowl Sunday. That’s a lot of popping!

-Over 1.3 billion chicken wings are consumed by avid watchers of the game. Over 57% of those who eat chicken wings opt for ranch dressing over blue cheese.

-If you don’t want to cook, you can be part of the 48 million people that order take-out.

-Americans drink over 325 million gallons of beer throughout the day (over 2 million cases.)  This is equal to 493 Olympic sized swimming pools.

-$237 million dollars is spent on soft drinks that are consumed on Super Bowl Sunday.

So how long does it take to get all this food and prepare for the actual day?

Participants tend to start their Super Bowl preparations at least 40 days in advance. In total, 10 million hours are spent collectively to plan parties and festivities surrounding the big game. Close to 20 million Americans will attend a Super Bowl Party. Around 17 people on average attend each party and of those that watch the Super Bowl, 40% are not even fans. No doubt, they probably just come for the food!

Over 9 million people will watch the game at a restaurant or bar.

It’s important to note that the U.S. isn’t the only country that watches the Super Bowl as it receives 160 million viewers worldwide. This equates to close to 40 million people that will watch the Super Bowl in other countries. As it’s difficult to watch this intense game without chowing down on something, they probably have their own favorite snacks to munch on as well. What will you be eating on Super Bowl Sunday? Just remember to do yourself a favor and skip stepping on the scale for a day or two following the game.

Try not to overeat & drink so much that you are part of the 7 million people that don’t show up to work on the following Monday morning.

I’ve heard that many who have watched the superbowl for years, even decades, as an annual ritual won’t be tuning in this year. Maybe it has something to do with the NFLs coddling of “protest” players or maybe it’s just because the game is failing to generate interest. Whatever the case, more than a few who aren’t MSM-led sheeple will not be tuning in.
