Weekend Family Travel Fun: Hot Air Balloon Festival And Beach Trip

We are always on a lookout for fun things to do on weekends, especially during the summer. Summer just allows for more travel opportunities and there are more events happening than during colder months (though we do love traveling in winter as well). LINK

The first event of the weekend was the play date. The kids enjoyed the sunny weather and were playing with sprinklers and water balloons. While adults enjoyed some chatter and libations. Then we all had a great brunch and more drinks.

Hot Air Balloon Festival:

We watched the balloons being blown up. They were first blowing them up with very powerful fans. Once there was enough volume inside, they switched to hot air from a burner to get the balloons to full height and also off the ground. The hot air inside the balloon is less dense than the air outside, and warm air rises, therefore, allowing the balloon to float.

After the launch of the larger balloons, there was one balloon that was inflated for the tethered rides. That is the balloon was tied down with ropes on four sides to trucks on the ground. It took passengers in the basket up around 75 feet and then back down to the ground. You get the full experience with the cramp basket, loud burner, and hot flames shooting up about your ahead. You just don’t float anywhere. It is a great experience for first timers and kids who are unsure what it might be like. It was great for our kiddo who loved most of it except for the loud flames. While some kids got very scared of the flames, the height, she only flinched when the flames roared. The rest of the time was looking around how we were floating and at the full moon.

On Sunday, after an eventful Saturday outing, we slept in. Once up, we packed for the beach. Usually, we like to pre-plan and pre-pack, but as we have the usual beach accessories these days and since kiddo is a bit older, our trip requires less stuff.
