10 Days Amazing Experience Of Malaysia Trip

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

ALL IN ONE … JUNGLES, PARADISIACAL ISLANDS AND A GREAT CITY

Welcome back to Southeast Asia! what to see and do in Malaysia? We have come to a country where we will be surprised from the first minute because in the next 10 days we will experience unique sensations traveling through the oldest jungle in the world, passing through stunning paradisiacal islands until reaching a modern city that costs To believe that a little over half a century ago there were only crops and barrizales …

So without going around, I will tell you what to see and do in Malaysia.

Day 1 to 3: Visit Kuala Lumpur

We landed in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. Unlike other capitals of Southeast Asian countries, despite having something chaotic for me, it is not comparable to its neighbor Bangkok  and not much less to Manila . For my taste in Kuala Lumpur it is easier to breathe, although of course, it will depend a lot on which neighborhood we are …

What are the most important things to see in Kuala Lumpur?

 - Visit the Petronas Towers

How not! We all know this … how famous are these twin towers linked by their glass bridge, and the truth that seeing them in person is quite impressive!

You can go up to the 86th floor, but you have to be a while before to get in line and it is not always possible.

For me the best idea is to visit it when the night has fallen and enjoy its beautiful lighting, combined with the spectacle of water and lights that perform right in the fountains of the square to the sound of music. The truth is that sitting on the lawn and enjoying this free event is priceless, small views!

When we know the Petronas Towers by heart, we will go to see them from another point of view with a beer / cocktail in hand … and it turns out that in the hotels located directly opposite have some cool bars / restaurants / nightclubs in the have a drink while enjoying the best “postcard” of Kuala Lumpur as a backdrop, one last!

* (the hotels that I am referring to are the Mandarin Oriental, the Grand Hyatt or the Traders Hotel, and you do not have to pay to go up even if they look like luxury at the entrance … we went with a few pints of backpackers that you can not imagine)

 - The Chinatown neighborhood in Kuala Lumpur

I could say that this is my favorite part … often chaos of small shops, accommodations and restaurants of all kinds. It is a cheap area to stay to sleep and is not too far from the Petronas Towers (I have done it several times in 20-25 minutes).

Here the most famous is Jalan Petaling street and surroundings. A big flea market where we can buy imitations at very good prices, and some of them of quite good quality (I’m devastated here … haha). And at night, light show everywhere!

 Bukit Bintang

It is called the Golden Triangle and is the most business and commercial area of the city. Here there is always an atmosphere, and especially at night it gets up! It’s amazing if we come walking from Chinatown like after a while watching only low cottages we landed in an area with an amazing amount of skyscrapers and modernist buildings. It would be interesting the day you visit the Petronas Towers, then take advantage to visit this area and dine around here in one of its famous “food courts” , a kind of corrala with many food stalls. The street Jalan Alor is the perfect place for it, yes, if you are looking for tranquility get away from here!

Batu Caves

We left modernity and we are going to know the biggest Hindu sanctuary of Kuala Lumpur. To get there we will have to go by subway and it will take us about 30 minutes, it is on the outskirts.

Prepare your legs because to get into these impressive caves you have to climb 272 steps … there is na! 🙂, and also accompanied by enough monkeys who will be willing to “steal” any object or food that we do not keep well … so look with sunglasses, cameras, portfolios, etc.

At the entrance there is a golden statue of 43 meters which is really impressive!

Central Market

It is very close to Chinatown and a fun ambientillo is formed around it. The building is old and colonial, and although there are a lot of shops, you can not play haggling like in Chinatown …

Menara KL

The Communication Tower of Kuala Lumpur is one of the tallest in the world, it reminded me of Toronto in Canada . They are 421 meters that surprise when you are at your base. At night it is more beautiful because the upper part is changing colors.

 - Merdaka Square and Little India

Side by side we can discover the largest Indian colony in Kuala Lumpur. This neighborhood is better to know during the day and hallucinate with the smells, flavors and colors of this impressive culture.

 - The National Mosque of Malaysia (Masjid Negara)

There are a lot of mosques in Kuala Lumpur and I am not in favor of traveling all of them, many of you will cross it … but this is the biggest one that can fit up to 15,000 people with a more modernist touch, I’ll tell you in case anyone wants to visit it , but it’s not that it’s a must-see in Kuala Lumpur …

And here our 3 days in the capital of Malaysia! What do you think? I hope you liked it but I warn you that the big cities are over on this trip …

Day 4 and 5: Taman Negara Jungle

It’s funny that we can say that we’ve been in the oldest rain forest on the planet, right? Well after this visit we will have that “title”! 130 million seniority await us …

Comentaros that despite being in one of the most ancestral places on Earth and that will surely surprise us with the things that I will tell you next, you must take into account that everything is very prepared for tourism. Although in the 250 km that separate it from Kuala Lumpur it seems that we are entering in the most remote part of the jungle, once there we will have at our reach all the comforts.

And what to do in the jungle of Taman Negara?

There are many activities such as:

  • Jungle Trekking: A walk through the jungle crossing the suspension bridges (called Canopy) and the boat to navigate the river.
  • Night Jungle Walk: A nocturnal trekking that is where more animals will have an opportunity to see since the jungle at night is more alive than ever …
  • Rafting on the river, a fun experience but too quiet.
  • Visit the Kota Gelanti cave to see bat colonies and rock formations.
  • Elephant Sanctuary: A place where we can feed the elephants, bathe them and even play with them. It is true that nowadays, after living a season in Asia I am quite against these places where the poor animals are exploited for the benefit of the tourist when they should be free, but well, I was the first one when years ago I traveled through First time to Asia I visited one of these places.

In short, we will enjoy 2 days of jungle to the fullest performing all kinds of activities related to nature that will make us live incredible experiences.

And from the wildest jungle we go to … the paradisiacal beaches!

Day 6 to 10: Perenthian Islands

The time has come to put on our swimsuit and enjoy relaxing and exotic islands … we are in the Perenthian Islands!

They are one of the most virgin islands on the planet and although lately they have become more fashionable, like the islands of Thailand , it is still a wonderful place. I recommend you stay in the small island ( Pulau Perenthian Kecil ) which is where there is something greater environment.

And now to the mess … what to do in the Perenthians Islands?

I have it clear … dive! Those who follow this blog know that it is one of my passions and here is an incredible place to enjoy it; so if you’ve never practiced it, cheer up and try this paradise!

The waters are so beautiful and crystal clear that by snorkeling from the surface of the water you can see a lot of amazing marine life, so do not go to any beach without your mask and snorkel tube. Just do not pay for these tours … you can snorkel on your own without problems!

Take advantage and rent a kayak to lose yourself in dreamy corners for you alone!

And what else? Here are some recommendations:

  • Trekking of about 15 minutes that joins both coasts of the island. As they are so lush places it is very nice to walk through the jungle; Yes, get good mosquito repellent but if you do not come out alive … haha. Then there is some longer path in which you can find all kinds of jungle animals such as lizards, monkeys, etc.
  • Visit to fishing village , a village where most of the locals live and where they can experience first-hand the customs and daily life of this island town.
  • Amazing sunsets! Here I have little to say beyond that you live with your own eyes … after a day of relaxation and beach is the perfect icing!
  • The nightlife that forms in the beach bars with the typical fire shows that are in most of the islands of Southeast Asia.

Well yes … a paradise in every rule!

Just tell you that there are no ATMs in the Perenthians Islands to get money  (at least for the time being), so even though hotels can pay by card at local shops, so take cash to spare.

Of course something you already know, remember the issue of negotiating prices … the taxi boat that takes us from one place to another will always give us a tourist price that we will have to reduce it to one third of what it says in many cases, including less!

The subject of reservations do it with time, in high season they usually cover all places very soon …

And here comes our journey through Malaysia … did you like it? Now it will be back to the capital Kuala Lumpur and back home.

But before I can not stop mentioning a place to visit in this curious country for those who have some more time … Borneo!

I still have not had the luck to visit this Malaysian territory and what I am going to tell you is what I have reported, since I was about to go but finally it could not be … but it is on the pending agenda because it must Be awesome to know:

  • Sipadan Island , they say that among the 3 best diving spots in the world! The problem is the price and the complication to access, since there is a maximum number of daily divers and you have to reserve a place well in advance … but well, we will try! 🙂
  • Kota Kinabalu: Its capital, an apparently modern city with many flea markets through its streets …
  • Mount Kinabalu: The highest mountain in Southeast Asia … at least two days of trekking and some physical preparation because it seems to be hard.
  • Go into the jungle through the Kinabatangan River for two days and get lost in the jungle. You have the possibility to see orangutans a few meters from you! They told me that in Sepilok they can be seen up close but in a touristy plan and not in full freedom … look at this article from El Rincon de Sele here.

It looks good? I think so … and that I have not seen yet, so at the time I visit you I will give you more precise indications, I promise!

And now yes … we finished the guide to know what to see and do in Malaysia. I hope you liked it and you know how to prepare the next destination!

Some basic facts about Malaysia:

Language :   Malay (although enough people speak English for having been a British colony)

Currency :   Ringgit (MYR)

Timetable:     UTC + 8 (7 hours more than in Spain UTC + 1)

Vaccinations:      There is no mandatory, but if you are going to go for a longer period or go deep into the jungle it is advisable to visit the doctor to recommend us, perhaps we will get typhoid fever, hepatitis A and B, tetanus and Japanese encephalitis.

Necessary documentation (EU residents ad Indian residents):  No special document is required beyond the passport with a validity period of more than 6 months to the return date if we are going to be less than 3 months.

Climate :   Tropical climate very influenced by monsoons, although depending on the coast we choose it will be preferable to travel at one time or another to avoid the rainy season, although as a rule between March and October is usually the best time. Likewise, the rains in these countries are usually very strong but last for a few minutes, and after a while a radiant sun can emerge.

Data of interest:

- The plugs in Malaysia are type G, those with 3 pins, so do not forget the adapter

- It is a safe country, you do not have to worry about it except the usual precautions that travelers should take avoiding conflicting areas.

Malaysia is an amazing country, it has a lot to offer to its tourists – beautiful islands, beaches, quaint towns and adventure spots. I was there once and I really enjoyed the time I spent. By the way, if you want to travel but can’t afford it, here is a good guide on how to find cheap flights https://travelsites.com/blog/how-to-find-cheap-flights/
