With the worldwide pandemic that is currently taking place, physically visiting beloved national landmarks or attractions is not currently possible.

The next best thing is taking a virtual tour possible thanks to technological advances. You can immerse yourself into these experiences using the tools available from aquariums, museums, curated collections, and sites around the world.

If you’re a train lover and like the thrill of a high speed ride, you can enjoy several virtual train rides that are available so that you can enjoy the mountainside, the birds and the tall trees that abound in nature.

Wengernalp Railway, Switzerland
This route goes from Lauternrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg. Switzerland is already landscape that looks like it has just emerged from a painting so this ride will enable you to climb into the mountains and pass through deep valleys.

Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Colorado, USA
If you’re not afraid of heights, this rail line is for you. From one mountain town to another, you trail a high-alpine mountain pass to travel. The tour is in three sections – section one above the Animas River, section two into the Colorado mountains, and section three into the town of Silverton.

Belgrade–Bar Railway, Serbia
You can experience the changes in altitude from the Adriatic Sea with travels from the Serbian capital of Belgrade. This scenic route takes you through 254 tunnels and over 435 bridges.

South Western Railway, England
One of the most famous railways in the world is the London Underground. On this ride, you get the best of both worlds with the city skyline of London, and the amazing countryside. It starts at London Waterloo station and heads west, ending at Southampton Central station.

Ferrocarril Central Andino, Peru
This scenic railway goes from the port of Callao on the pacific side and the capital of Peru, Lima, with the Huancayo and Cerro de Pasco. This trip has four sections – section one over the Puente Carrión bridge; section two climbs from Matucana to San Mateo; section three travels over the Puente Infiernillo bridge; and section four goes through one of the highest railroad tunnels in the world.

Belgrade–Bar Railway, Montenegro
The longest line tunnel and the highest railway bridge in Europe are both included in this railway in Montenegro. You’ll get views of the Adriatic Sea and mountainous regions of the country. It starts in Bar and ends in the town of Bijelo Polje after covering 102 tunnels and 96 bridges.

Bernina Railway, Switzerland to Italy
If you would like to get from Switzerland to Italy, take the scenic railway route. This trip starts in St. Moritz, Switzerland and ends in Tirano, Italy. Along the route of the ride, you’ll view villages, high cliffs and the seas. It is the highest railway alpine crossing and the highest adhesion railway in Europe.

Geibi Line to Fukuen Line, Japan
When you think of Japan, you think of Tokyo and Kyoto with fast paced city life teeming with technology. This railway route will take things to a slower countryside as you get from Hiroshima Station to Fuchū Station on the Geibi Line turned Fukuen Line. Views include bridges and dark tunnels through the mountainous region of Chūgoku and even Mount Fuji on a clear day.

Pikes Peak Cog Railway, Colorado, USA
Another site for height thrill seekers, this railway allows you to get to the top of Pike’s Peak in Colorado. It starts in Manitou Springs and goes up from there.

The Jacobite, Scotland
Not only for fans of Harry Potter as it is the train from the films, this train ride offers views of the Scottish countryside by going over the Glenfinnan Viaduct that can be seen in the films.

The Flåm Railway, Norway
Although short, this ride is one of the most beautiful. From Aurlandfjordto the high mountains of Myrdal station in Norway. You’ll view high altitude farms, snow-capped mountains, waterfalls and ravines, while also experiencing changes in weather from sun to rain and back.

MARC Camden Line, Washington D.C. to Baltimore, Maryland, USA
