Thanksgiving Football Games 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has created tremendous stress and caused isolation for many people. Gatherings during the upcoming holidays can be an opportunity to reconnect with family and friends. Just keep in mind to take extra initiatives to keep yourself, friends & family healthy & safe.
Professional football has been played on Thanksgiving since 1920. Currently, three NFL games are played every Thanksgiving.
We’ve included not only information about the upcoming big games, but some interesting facts about Thanksgiving football so that you can prepare for all of the upcoming action.
Interesting Facts
- Until 2006 Thanksgiving Day games were only played in Dallas and Detroit. Since 2006, games have been played at a variety of different cities and evening games have been added as well.
- One team has never played in a Thanksgiving Day game: the Jacksonville Jaguars
- With the exception of 1941-1944, when no football games were played because of WWII, the Detroit Lions have played in every Thanksgiving Day game. Coincidentally they have the most wins and losses on Thanksgiving Day. Detroit goes into this year with a 37-39-2 record & Dallas at 30-19-1.
- Since 1966 the Cowboys have played in every Thanksgiving Day game and have the second-most wins.
- Cincinnati and Tampa Bay have never won a Thanksgiving Day game.
Football Games to Watch Thanksgiving Day
Put down the turkey leg, save the dishes for later and let’s get ready for some football!
- The Texans play the Lions at 12:30 p.m. (CBS) No in-person attendance for this game. Houston is struggling after losing DeAndre Hopkins & the Lions are currently tied for last in the NFC North with 3 wins & 5 losses.
- Washington vs. the Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. (FOX) Limited in-person attendance. Both the Cowboys & Washington have had a rough season as well.
- Ravens vs. the Steelers at 8:20 p.m. (NBC) Limited in-person attendance. If you can only watch one, this is the game to catch! The Steelers are currently undefeated and the Ravens are 6 & 2. Always a great division rivalry.
Due to COVID-19 related NCAAF scheduling, there are no college games this Thanksgiving.
Football Games to Watch on Black Friday
- There are 4 college games on Black Friday. Iowa State Cyclones vs. the Texas Longhorns; Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. North Carolina Tar Heels, Oregon Ducks vs. Oregon State Beavers & UMass Minutemen vs. Liberty Flames on ESPN3.
If this isn’t enough football for you, there will be plenty of college games on Saturday and NFL on Sunday including the Chiefs at Buccaneers.
