7 Tips To Hook Up In Europe While Traveling

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The hook up game is complicated enough in your home country. But it is often even trickier if you’re traveling without knowing the easiest countries and cities to get laid in Europe.

To collect real accounts of the European hook up scene, we asked some 500 expatriates living in Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland a series of private questions on themselves, their relationships, and their lives.

Of course, every experience is different and how yours plays out will depend on who you will meet and how the chemistry will play out.

But knowing some of the cultural differences can help you avoid awkward situations and get you laid much faster.

In the North of Europe, hooking up with someone is pretty common. Instead in the South European countries, people avoid casual sex as they feel more comfortable making love with someone they know. Yet, hookups still happen and there aren’t any stone set rules about it. More common sense and cultural forces will be in play.

For example, in the Netherlands is common to meet up for a coffee or dinner, and if there is enough chemistry to go somewhere private for sex. While hooking up in France can be a tedious adventure. Dating for a while before having sex is a common practice here, and it could range from 2 days up to 2 months!

Below you can find 6 tips to get you hooked up in Europe…

1. Pick the easiest European countries to get laid

In some European countries are easier to have casual sex than in others. Usually, North and Center European countries are more open-minded forwards hookups than South European countries.

So your successes depend strongly on which countries you decide to travel throw during your Euro trip.  There is a site that has collected data and revealed the easiest countries to get laid in Europe for singles and couples.

And as per our research, we have to agree with that list showing North and East European countries to have the best hook up scene.

3. Take the first step while you go out in Europe

In Belgium, France, and Italy, it is common for a man to ask a woman out. However, in Switzerland or Germany, men can be a bit reserved, so women may want to give them a push. For the French, it’s all about the chase, and playing hard for it is part of the game. Maintain eye contact when someone interests you; if not, don’t.

If you say no to an invite, he may think you are playing tough and will likely persist. In case you’re not interested, be very clear and say so politely but firmly. Suggestions that might work at home might not work in France. The Italians have a reputation for being romantic and passionate people. If a woman shows too much interest too early, it can scare a man.  As in France, a game of chase and rejection must take place before any form of hook up materializes.

3. Don’t wait to call

When you meet someone new, there is a great debate about how long to wait before calling.

Too early, and it may put off some women or men. Too long and they seem disinterested. In most European countries, once you meet, you’ll most likely call right away instead of waiting a few days. So don’t be surprised if someone keeps calling you. Don’t worry they aren’t stalkers. In France and Spain, it is not uncommon to call or text frequently; it just means you are interested.

A French or a Spaniard might tell you that they love you after a few hours, but don’t panic. Usually, this just means “I like you”.

4. Keep the first meet up simple

In many European countries, instead of going to specific dates as is common in North American countries, meeting someone romantically is much more informal: “walks in the afternoon or evening, which can be followed by an informal drink over coffee (cheers!) or a bite to eat at lunch. Gathering in a group with friends “is not uncommon, say some European ex-pats.

In the Netherlands, you can go for a walk or take a bike ride.  Couples in Germany also do not start with formal dates and it is only after a series of informal gatherings (walks, dinners, movies, theater) that they can begin to be seen as a couple.

5. Understand that European countries are different

Unless you’re going to do something sporty, dress up a bit. Flip-flops, shorts, or scruffy clothing generally tend to not make a decent impression in fashion-conscious European cities. Smart casual wear is probably the best. French and Spanish men can seem a bit over the top, showering a woman with compliments.

If this happens, don’t panic. It does not mean that she is (necessarily) a scoundrel, as giving a compliment is a form of recognition rather than a compliment in those countries. In places like the Netherlands and Germany, people can be very direct in the way they speak. What you say can be taken literally. You should not always take what they tell you seriously. Whatever you do, don’t get drunk. In the UK, drinking a lot of alcohol can be essential to start a sexual relationship with someone. But the rule in most of the rest of Europe is: no.

6. The dollar bill theory

In most countries, the man offers to pay the bill. However, he wouldn’t automatically be offended if the woman suggested splitting the bill, paying for the drinks, or some other aspect of the date.  Anyway, by paying the bill in full without hesitation you increase drastically your chances to get laid.

7. To kiss or not to kiss

Recently, a well-known romantic social networking site asked 13,000 members from around the world if they’d kiss on a first date.  More than half of Europeans said they would kiss on a first date. On the other hand, only 29 percent of Germans and 32 percent of French said they would be angry.

This does not take into account the fact that, of course, it is common in many countries for people to greet each other with a kiss on the cheek. In many English-speaking countries, the kiss does not have the same meaning as in other places. For example, in the UK, a woman can kiss one or more men when she’s in a club or bar (or vice versa), but it doesn’t necessarily mean anything or lead to a relationship of any kind.  On the contrary, in France, if you kiss someone on the lips, it means that you are in a relationship. So, kiss carefully!
