Singapore 2018 - South Beach Tower
South Beach Tower is another huge mixed-use development in the city centre. Designed by Foster + Partners, the most eye-catching feature of the project is the sweeping curvilinear canopy at the podium level. In fact, I was really intrigued by the shape when it was under construction – but now completed – it was not as elegant as I had expected. The powder-coated metal “ribbons” that made up the roof cover look a bit plasticky and the colours look faded.
The canopy covers a huge plaza that connects all the different elements of the project together – including a new Marriot Hotel, an office tower, a residential tower, the podium retail, and F&B hub, as well as several heritage buildings that belonged to the military.
