Europe Travel in the Spring

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Spring is a great time to travel to Europe and discover some of the most beautiful destinations. Even though the weather may be a little cool and rainy, the air is crisp, the flowers bloom, amazing sites are available, and the summer crowds have yet to arrive. Remember that prices on airfare, cruises, and escorted tours are more reasonable in the Spring than in the summer.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

During the Spring, the Netherlands blooms with tulips. In honor of this, the world’s largest bulb garden, Keukenhof, will have a large flower show with more than 7 million flowers. The show starts towards the end of March and goes through the middle of May. Over 80 acres of flowers for visitors to see, including 4.5 million tulips. The Netherlands is known for its flowers and is, in fact, the biggest flower exporter in the world. You could also take a bike ride along the picturesque canals. We also recommend visiting Amsterdam’s floating flower market along the Singel Canal. Tauck Tulip Cruise of Holland and Belgium in Spring is a wonderful eight-day trip.

Madeira, Portugal

For those who want to visit Portugal in the Spring, Madeira, the “island of flowers,” is the place to go. The mild temperatures are perfect for getting out and exploring. From the end of April to mid-May is the Madeira Flower Festival. This annual flower show usually takes place four weeks after Easter when the flowers bloom. One of the event’s most anticipated activities will be when children place a flower on a “Wall of Hope” as a symbol of world peace. Over a thousand children parade towards the “Praça do Município” to put a flower on the wall. The 7-day event will have many activities available and plenty of flowers on display. In addition, many Duoro river cruises include a stop in Madeira and other beautiful ports where you can enjoy the Spring weather. Portugal is known for its world-class surfing beaches. Visitors can take surf lessons or rent a board and enjoy the country’s excellent waves during the spring season.

Prague

There is much to do in Prague during the Spring, including the Prague Easter markets (Velikonocni trhy). These markets celebrate the arrival of Spring in the Czech Republic, and the Prague markets are the most impressive in the country. They are open each day from April 2nd to the 24th. The main Easter Market is at the Old Town Square, and smaller markets in the city can be found at Wenceslas Square, Republic Square, and Kampa Island. Visitors come to these markets because of the wide variety of available items. Local handicrafts’ traditional Easter treats hand-painted Easter eggs, toys, dolls, and glassware. Ceramics, jewelry, glassware, embroidered lace, wooden toys, candles, puppets, and dolls dressed in traditional costumes. There are also vast amounts of Czech food available for purchase, including pastries and ham. Dancers and school groups perform each day in the afternoon for shoppers.

The Prague Spring International Music takes place from mid-May until early June. This is one of the largest events in Prague each year. It features various classical music artists, symphony orchestras, and chamber music ensembles worldwide. The shows and concerts are held in various halls throughout the city.

Montreux, Switzerland

The Swiss Alps are breathtakingly beautiful and offer some of the world’s best hiking trails and fresh mountain air. It is easy to see why Montreux, with its magnificent scenery reflected in the shimmering waters of placid Lake Geneva, has acquired the title ‘The Pearl of the Swiss Riviera.’ Situated on the shores of Lake Geneva and surrounded by the majestic Swiss and French Savoy Alps, the region is blessed with a particularly mild climate. Take a pleasant stroll along the banks of the lake, where exotic flowers grow in proliferation and white swans glide gracefully past. Or enjoy a sumptuous meal of fresh lake fish and delicious local wine in one of the many terrace restaurants overlooking the lake. Small secluded beaches and picturesque marinas with yachts and old steamboats afford a picture-perfect view of vineyards and quaint old stone-housed villages. Skiing in the French Alps is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The spring season offers mild weather, fewer crowds, and cheaper prices.

Paris, France

As winter comes to an end in Paris, Spring brings beautiful blooming flowers that make for fantastic photo opportunities. The atmosphere during springtime in Paris is light and refreshing. A picnic in the Buttes-Chaumont, Jardin des Plantes, or the Tuileries is a great way to see the beautiful flowers and cherry blossom trees blooming and enjoy the crisp air. The weather is still cool but not too cold, and there are usually fewer crowds, making it easier to get around the city and see popular tourist attractions. Other useful blogs are Springtime in Paris and Unique Experiences in Paris. Another option is to start in Paris and then take a river cruise through France’s famed Bordeaux wine-producing region.

Tuscany, Italy

The rolling hills of Tuscany are perfect for visiting in the springtime and enjoying wine tasting! The weather is mild and perfect for nature lovers to take long walks in the lush Tuscan countryside amongst the blooming wildflowers. April is one of the best times to travel to Tuscany. Rent a Vespa or a bike and enjoy time on a winding country road and the Chianti hills. There are several flower festivals, and you can visit the area without the massive amounts of tourists. In Tuscany, you can take a cooking class, learn to paint, take a food tour, or just relax and enjoy the view.

Now is the perfect time to book your spring vacation to Europe. The weather is pleasant, the prices of hotels are a bit lower, and the crowds are smaller than in the summer.
