Senior Citizens want to play too!

Dizzyland” for a day or Paradise for a week?

I’ve been told that a general article about Playa Roca Beach Hotel with some price lists would be helpful.  Well, the web site does some of that, but as most web sites sometimes are a little boring with data and more flashy formal data  That’s why I like blogs; you can insert “stuff” people ask about and it isn’t necessary to keep changing the web site.  An article that was published in NicaLiving gives a little better description than the www.playaroca.com ”data” site.  Here it is again if you didn’t get a chance to “link-up” earlier.

Another person asked about seniors, and if they fit in. “Senior” is that strange word that describes who, really?  I’m 61 yrs. old and still Rock & Roll and don’t have a blanket over my lap or doze in mid-sentence, but… Last year we had two separate “snow birds” come and stay for extended periods (2-3 months) at Playa Roca instead of Florida, California, Arizona or Mexico, where they used to spend the winter months.  The beauty, weather, solitude and the low cost of living here full time was the reason for their stay and their desire to return on a permanent “winter” basis.

For the first time in their “snow birding” seasons history, they actually saved money while living/staying here.  There was more money “saved” than during their other winter get-a-ways or even staying at home sitting by the furnace and wishing they could afford to be in a paradise destination like their “rich-retired” buddies.  Now they can and are! Tours, fishing, reading books, learning a new language (yes, old dogs can and do learn new tricks), discovering the wonderful world of the Internet, even being able to call home and talk as often as they wanted for less than they would have spent on their own personal telephone service (Suspend home service while you’re away and see “saved bucks!).  You are a long way from home in a strange but spectacular setting, but with all the communications available today, you are only an inexpensive phone call or web chat away!  Daily (?) phone calls to family and friends makes it seem as though you are just around the corner.

And if you don’t want to be hassled by the office, home or telemarketers, just find a hammock or mesa overlooking the Pacific Ocean and search the web, or read a book or dream new dreams. My personal “office’ is open aired and only 15′ from the beach itself, my lap top on a restaurant table.  You can stroll miles of unspoiled beaches, bike around the fishing villages and lush country side.  The splendid volcanic rock formations are only steps from the hotel and are great for exploring sea life and feeling the power of the ocean.  Perch atop the volcanic mounds of “frozen in time” lava and experience the crashing waves only yards or meters from you!  Fishing and sunsets and even exploring for live lobsters are other “rock” adventures.  Get lost in the tide pools ebbing and flowing minute by minute. See the surfers slash and dance the waves from your “side” view from your little peninsula.  A good book and a beer?  Guitar?  Sure, why not!  Holding hands again with a sparkle in your heart.
You are not left out of the fun because you are older.  Surfing and hiking up volcanoes may be a younger person’s activities, but horseback riding, bicycling and beach combing are activities for any age as well as wilderness touring and visiting historical and natural sites near Las Penitas and Playa Roca.
You will be amazed how little it really costs to visit, stay or even live in this paradise setting.  Wouldn’t it be nice to see your savings go further or get more for your money?  A guest said that last week a beer and a pack of cigarettes put him back $12 at a local New York pub.  He was amazed to only pay $2.50 at our beach bar for the same beer and cigarettes!  His tip to the bartender in New York cost him almost as much as he paid here for the two items.
No, there are no bridge clubs, golf clubs, shuffleboard or lawn bowling here, not even a clubhouse where you can watch As the World Turns (even though we have satellite TV for major sports and movies).

What would you think if, after a vacation, you went home speaking Spanish (or English)?  Nearly 70% of all visitors to Nicaragua, and specifically to Playa Roca Beach Hotel, are from outside Latin America.  People staying here can converse with people from all over the world.  Spanish is the official language, but if you want to speak English, you can. More than 50% of all tourists are from North America and 20% are from Europe where many speak English as their second language. We also speak “Spanglish”, as do many of our staff members.

PLAYA ROCA LEARNING AND LANGUAGE CENTER:

We also are the home of the Playa Roca Learning and Language School.  Professional language professors teaching English and Spanish (Norwegian if you so choose!) right here ON THE BEACH.  No city smells, the exhaust, boom boxes, honking with sweaty hot with humid suffocating wind blocking concrete buildings clogging your learning experience.  Learn Spanish in the morning and surf or relax or explore all day!  Private and group classes for all levels from beginner to advanced.  Package “Learn and Stay” discounts are available on a select individual basis.  Also see:

We are also attempting to educate the community in cleaning up their environment.  Playa Roca to many locals means “NO BASURA” or NO TRASH! Teaching English and Math to the youth of Las Penitas is the goal of the Learning Center.  They exchange their basura for tutoring in English and Math. Volunteers are welcome to help Playa Roca educate these wonderful people.
