In Venezuela Obama's 'Playing With Fire' Supporting 'Leninists Of The Right'

In Venezuela Thursday, thousands of pro-government supporters converged for a 1989 revolt anniversary celebration, thousands of US-supported anti-government protesters clashed with police in the streets again, and a judge issued a warrant for the arrest of an anti-government leader while oil-addicted US Congresspersons remained silent in support of the Law of the Jungle.

“Obama is playing with fire,” Tom Hayden said in his blog Friday regarding the American president’s public moral support to street demonstrations in oil-rich Venezuela. “Obama immediately needs to rein in the entire entourage of US-supported agents of destabilization and issue them a clear cease-and-desist order, or he and the US government will be blamed for what may happen in the weeks ahead.

American social and political activist, author, and politician Tom Hayden is director of the Peace and Justice Resource Center in Culver City, California.

“[Obama] needs (to) support whatever consensus emerges this week from the region’s elected governments and the United Nations,” said Hayden.

The American Congress and public are becoming used to street protests overthrowing elected governments regardless of the issue of national sovereignty.

‘Humanitarian intervention’ in the affairs of other nations means willfully ignoring sovereignty where egregious human rights abuses are at stake and no negotiations are possible. The argument is somewhat attractive up to the point where it revives the Law of the Jungle.

In the case of Venezuela, not only sovereignty but representative democracy are at stake, in a region which only recently began to shed the US-supported rule of oligarchs and generals. – Tom Hayden

The court on Thursday issued a warrant for the arrest of U.S.-supported Carlos Vecchio and ordered the military intelligence general directorate to capture him for crimes of arson, public incitement and damage.

Carlos Vecchio is the national political coordinator of Voluntad Popular (Popular Will) party. The Obama regime is supporting this opposition party’s ramping up pressure on students and others protesters to stage nationwide rallies for President Nicolas Maduro’s biggest challenge since in power.

Due to the US-backed attempt to overthrow fairly elected president Nicolas Maduro, 14 people have died, 140 people have been wounded and 600 arrested.

“The forgotten facts amidst the mounting frenzy is that President Maduro won the April 2013 Venezuelan election by slightly under two percent, and his alliance were victors by ten percent in last December’s nationwide municipal elections,” Hayden said. (Emphasis added)

Judge Ralenis Tovar Guillen ordered military intelligence to capture Vecchio. Court officials had not confirmed on Thusday the move against Vecchio.

Losers of the last Venezuelan elections “have turned into Leninists of the Right, seeking to create a counter-revolutionary situation in which the government apparatus crumbles and they seize power,” Hayden said.

U.S. backed opposition to Maduro ”want martyrs in the streets,” according to Hayden. ”In their apocalyptic view, a coup in Venezuela would spiral swiftly into the collapse of the oil-dependent Bolivian, Ecuadoran and Nicaraguan governments, and be a deathblow to Cuba.

“The forgotten facts amidst the mounting frenzy is that President Maduro won the April 2013 Venezuelan election by slightly under two percent, and his alliance were victors by ten percent in last December’s nationwide municipal elections,” Hayden wrote.

Miraflores presidential palace in Venezuela’s capital was the scene of thousands of pro-government citizens Thursday. They gathered there to watch an official ceremony celebrating the anniversary of the 1989 revolt and to hear President Nicolas Maduro speak. The president withdrew from speaking there for unreported reasons.

Considering that the elected president Maduro is on the Obama regime’s targeted hit-list, it’s no surprise he’d decline a public appearance at such a gathering, despite it being attended by thousands of his supporters.

On the ground American covert operatives and US-trained operatives are spearheading the unrest and overthrow of Maduro. A Congressional coalition led by the Miami Cuba Lobby is agitating for Maduro’s demise, according to Hayden.

Monday, Maduro said authorities caught a “foreign mercenary” who’d gone to Venezuela to ignite violence.

“Today, we have caught in Aragua state (central Venezuela) a mercenary brought from the Middle East. We seized 11 international phones from him. He was captured while acting in upper middle class areas in Maracay (the state of Aragua’s capital). They were preparing for planting car bombs and fuel violence in the country, trying to push us to the same situation as Libya or Syria.” (Emphasis added)

Maduro, who knows and openly says the opposition protesters are plotting a coup with support from Washington, met with business and church leaders, intellectuals, journalists, lawmakers and governors Wednesday at his presidential palace for a national peace conference with some opposition representatives. The US supported main umbrella opposition coalition known as MUD, boycotted the peace meeting.

“Where are the Congressional progressives?” Hayden asks. “Despite frequent denials by US officials, for example, the State Department’s own Inspector General found that the Pentagon and US ‘democracy programs’  supported individuals and groups ‘actively involved in the brief ouster of the Chavez government’ in the 2002 coup attempt.

The U.S. has been responsible for most coups in South America. (See: SOA Watch) The U.S. has spearheaded coups mainly by graduates of the School Of Americas (SOA), also known as the School Of Assassins, heaquartered at Fort Benning, Georgia. There, Latin Americans are trained ro be terrorists, mercenaries. They are trained in torturing, assassinating and using other brutal tactics for overthrowing democratically elected governments so the US can control and steal other nation’s natural resources.

Thousands pro- and anti-government supporters flood streets in US dirty war preparations

As pro-government celebrations were under way Thursday, and the court’s order to arrest Vecchio was issued, US-led anti-government protesters commemorated the 25-year anniversary of the Caracazo popular uprising against president Carlos Andres Perez, that left hundreds dead.

Between 2,000 and 3,000 people gathered in the wealthy Caracas neighborhood of Chacao, an opposition stronghold, under the theme “No more dead.” There, they clashed with police who had to resort to using tear gas.

Approximately 200 demonstrators tried to block a highway in Baruta district Thursday, clashing with security forces, who dispersed them using tear gas. Baruta mayor Gerardo Blyde tweeted that 20 people were being treated for cuts, skin and eye irritations triggered by the tear gas.

US-supported Venezuela opposition students decapitated President Hugo Chavez statue in Tachira on Thursday, reportedly saying, ‘The statues of Chavez are beginning to fall.’

Chavez was best friends with America’s poor.

March 5th marks the first anniversary of the death of President Hugo Chavez, and March 8 is International Women’s Day.

“These apparently distinct celebrations are actually quite related,” says SOA Watch on its website.

“No other Venezuelan president did more to bring women’s rights to the national forum, and institutionalize them in progressive social contracts such as the Bolivarian constitution, education and health missions, and new social security and workers laws.”

SOA Watch has organized for a delegation to travel to Venezuela for the March 8 event.

Visit the birthplace of Chavez in the plains state of Barinas to understand the feminist inspiration of his socialist revolution: the generosity and solidarity of his humble grandmother,” SOA Watch stated in its invitational statement to women. “Process with Caraquenos to Chavez’s final resting place, among the people he loved the most: the poor and marginalized. Discover how the lives of all Venezuelans—especially women—changed because of Chavez’s extraordinary life.”

Fewer U.S.-supported opposition students and other opposition groups hit the streets of the capital Caracas Thursday than other days since the unrest began on Feb. 4. Venezuelans seem more interested in readying for Carnival that’s drawing near. The protesters’ demands have included better safety, food and basic goods. They protested inflation and government’s crackdown on their protests.

For now, Venezuela’s Mardi Gras is apparently more important than protests, although this reporter speculates that this year, it could become a nightmare given Venezuela’s political climate.

Moduro wants humanity to learn truth

President Maduro says he wants the truth exposed. In June, he described Edward Snowden’s actions as “the rebellion of truth,” according to Press TV.

“If that young man needs humanitarian protection and believes that he can come to Venezuela,” then Venezuela “is prepared to protect this brave youth in a humanitarian way and so that humanity can learn the truth,” Maduro said.

After publicly offering humanitarian aid for the young man who blew the whistle on corrupt US government spying for the purpose of targeting individuals, the U.S. placed Maduro on a no-fly list, preventing his jet from flying through U.S. airspace.

“This is infuriating — the U.S. government is denying us to follow the Caribbean route over Puerto Rico,” Maduro then said on Venezuelan public TV. “To deny a state leader to fly over a colonized land, like Puerto Rico, it’s a serious offense.

“We denounce it as yet more U.S. aggression,” Foreign Minister Elías Jaua told Reuters. “We reserve the right to take whatever measures we have to if the U.S. government doesn’t rectify this new assault on Venezuela’s sovereignty.”

Maduro backed Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa for withdrawing from a trade pact with the US when the Obama adminstration blackmailed him with the trade agreement worth $23 million. In June, the Correa government offered to Obama administration the $23 million back to the U.S. every year for human rights training.

Monday, Maduro urged Congress to create a Truth Commission. The administration has previously rejected such a commission, apparently preferring to operate in secret with deception – as a state within the state in power.

As long as the U.S. bullying continues through blackmail, mercenaries, and covert operatives manufacturing and sustaining unrest in the oil-rich Venezuela, the bloody crisis there will continue. Hayden asserts the American public needs to take action now.

“The peace and justice movement in the US, along with Congressional allies, have a potentially-important role in pressuring Obama, and secretaries Kerry and Hegel, to rein in the agents of America’s dirty wars.”

What a travesty America is. We need to elect candidates with good track records of supporting justice, democracy and sustainability even if they are third-party or independents. If they lose, at least we send a message to the pols and the other voters. Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil. Obama is no better than Bush, after all, and most Democratic members of Congress are no better than the Republicans. The same applies at state and local levels.
In the meantime, we ave to starve the beast, by boycotting big corporations, strengthening local businesses, and refusing to cooperate with the military or the intelligence industry.

Hayden is correct on many points as always. Perhaps most important is for Americans to take a stand against their government lies and brutality regarding Venezuela before corporate media spins the Venezuela crisis any worse than its already doing.

Not how Pres. Maduro has called for a Truth Commission, something the US gov. has rejected before and is certain to do again – despite amnesty declared to those who participate. Shameful.

In this article Margaret Flowers and I review four major falsehoods about Venezuela and one lie. In addition, we make the case that because of the deep, participatory democracy and the political education of many Venezuelans, the country is well positioned to withstand this US supported oligarchic coup attempt: http://truth-out.org/news/item/22121-venezuelas-deep-political-education-means-venezuelans-will-withstand-right-wing-protests

Thank you very much. Seems maybe you and Hayden have slightly different takes on the coup attempt. That’s somewhat of a relief.

Really appreciated your other recent article and humbly tried to gain interest in it here on BIN: /new-world-order/2014/02/surviving-nwo-and-enjoying-it-1380.html
