There are reports coming across social media that a Russian fighter jet has been shot down in Northern Syria by Turkey. This comes amidst heightened tensions after a previous incident in the air between the two countries last week that see NATO respond by wanting to send troops to the Turkey/Syria border. If these reports are correct then this will signal the start of something none of us can even imagine…
Eyewitnesses saw a large explosion in Huraytan, northern Syria, while three fighter jets were hovering above.
One journalist tweeted that three Turkish planes were responding to “mysterious” lock-ons from Mig-29 jets, which are used by Putin’s forces.
Express.co.uk has contacted the Turkish government and the Russian military but neither could be reached for comment.
It comes amid heightening tensions between Putin and the West just days after another Russian bomber violated Turkish airspace.
F-16 fighters were scrambled after a MIG-29 twin-engined jet locked radar on Turkish planes near the town of Yayladagi, in Hatay province close to the border with Syria.
Turkish jets then escorted the Soviet-era aircraft back into Syrian airspace.
The incursion followed nearly a week of Russia’s devastating bombing campaign in Syria after President Vladimir Putin declared war on Islamic State (ISIS).

Turkish forces are said to have shot down a Russian jet after it flew into the country’s airspace, according to unconfirmed reports on social media.
It has been claimed by eyewitnesses that there was a large explosion in Huraytan, northern Syria, while three fighter planes were seen overhead.
Rumours of a jet being shot out of the sky come amid heightening tensions between Russian president Vladimir Putin and the West.

This is as yet unconfirmed. It all seems to trace back to one or two tweets with no confirmation available.
If it is true, you will never hear about it. The consequences of it being publicly known? Political pressure in Russia would force Putin to respond with military retaliation against Turkey. Turkey, a member of NATO, would invoke Article 5. That would oblige the rest of the NATO members, including the U.S., to come to the defense of Turkey. That would put the U.S. and NATO in a shooting war with Russia.
The easy way out of a mess that nobody wants is to sweep it under the rug.

We are in a shooting war with Russia, we have been for years. Most recently Russia killed one of our ISIS mercenaries and captured two, in Chechnya (in Russia) Thursday.
We murdered Russian soldiers in South Ossetia in 2008. That did not lead to general war.
The US certainly wants “the mess,” as the US has been trying to drag Russia into war in Ukraine for a couple of years now.
The “shot down” story is most likely a mixture of war propaganda and bluster. An explosion near the Turkish border is most likely Turkish aid to ISIS getting blown up en route.

Quite untrue.
VP is far too astute a player to be pressured into such an obvious retaliatory move by western machinations, which are clearly behind this event, assuming it has even taken place, which seems somewhat unlikely.
RAF protocols will be to avoid foreign airspace at all costs, for the obvious reasons; just as they have stated that they will not bomb mosques, or civilian areas, even if the terrorists retreat into those regions.
Ground forces of the SAA will be left to mop up in these localities.
Incidentally, it is not beyond the imagination that a widely-exported Russian jet fighter could be procured from some third party, refigured as an RAF vehicle, then brought into a required area and shot down by NATO forces.
This sort of thing has a pedigree dating back as far as Operation Northwoods.

It is very interesting to me how everyone is always talking about the outcome of a 3rd world war based on the weapons and technology which is known and in plain sight. What everyone really needs to be considering is if a 3rd world war breaks out, who has what behind closed doors. I keep hearing everyone talk about the U.S and Nato being outmatched. With conventional weapons, yes.
