Hurricane Michael: Florida Hit by Strongest US Storm Since 1992

(From The Guardian)

The strongest storm to hit the US in more than 25 years, and the most powerful on record in the Florida Panhandle, has headed inland after a furious onslaught that killed two people and tore apart buildings.

Hurricane Michael’s 155mph (250km/h) winds at landfall were only 5mph short of category five status, making it the US’s strongest storm since Hurricane Andrew ravaged southern Florida in 1992.

Cat 1 with storm surge wiping out beachfront properties, anemometer read up to 75mph, most modern buildings survived even those with flat roofs. The wooden holiday homes got washed away. Some very dodgy CNN footage from a helicopter flying over land to the east of Mexico beach which was if 56k baud quality. To be honest the storm surge did in the holiday homes. Any scientist using the upper atmosphere wind readings to estimate ground damage which has not happened in the Saffir Simpson scale needs to return to grade school to learn Expressions and Equations since Saffir Simpson Damage == Wind Speed but Wind Speed != Saffir Simpson Damage. The area was wiped out by a lack of sea walls and that someone had made a luxury marina several hundred yards behind the beachfront properties which were not in any way up to standard, then again neither is an RV which has become a boat..
