Emsi at UPCEA: Data-driven Solutions for Professional, Continuing, and Online Education
This time next week, Emsi will be headed to the UPCEA Annual Conference in Seattle, WA! We’re excited to gather with hundreds of leaders to explore how continuing, professional, and online education can best serve a rising generation of life-long learners.
Emsi is proud to sponsor the Program Planning and Implementation track at this year’s conference. As part of that track, be sure to check out the Thursday afternoon session on “Re-positioning and Re-engineering the Liberal Arts Degree.” Presenters Rob Sentz (Chief Innovation Officer, Emsi) and Jim Fong (Director, UPCEA Center for Research and Strategy) will discuss Emsi’s research into the actual labor market outcomes of liberal arts grads and what this means for the future of liberal arts programs in the modern economy.
We’ll also have a booth in the exhibitor hall, so please swing by and say hello! In the meantime, here’s a look at some of the ways Emsi supports the mission of UPCEA member institutions.
Program Planning and Review
For institutions offering continuing ed. and professional programs, it’s more important than ever to keep a finger on the pulse of today’s rapidly changing economy.
What positions are employers trying to fill? Where are the skill gaps? What industries are growing in our region?
Emsi helps you answer these questions with Analyst, a comprehensive labor market analytics tool that includes traditional labor market data, job posting analytics, and professional profile analytics—all in one place. This integration empowers users to perform ad hoc gap analyses by comparing the demand for jobs and skills seen in job postings with the supply of those same skills in professional profiles.
Curious how other UPCEA institutions use Analyst for program development and review? Check out our recent webinars:
- How UC-Davis is Assessing the Market for Non-Degree Programs Targeted at Career Advancers – with Alex Lowrie (Senior Director, Center for Program Innovation at U.C. Davis)
- Program Review Through Labor Market Data Research – with Adam Fein Ph.D. (former Assistant Provost for Educational Innovation at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)
Employer Engagement
Robust labor market data provides an essential foundation, but solid employer partnerships can also provide vital input for developing relevant, in-demand programs.
But how can you expand your employer network? How do you identify top employers for particular industries or jobs, let alone discover which institutions might have a critical mass of your own graduates?
Emsi’s professional profile data, available in Analyst, can help answer these questions, and more. It provides access to over 107 million U.S. profiles and can be filtered by job title, skill, and even alma mater, so you can focus in on your own institution’s workforce footprint.
Already have an employer in mind that you’d like to partner with? Get a look at the skills and talent they currently employ, as well as their job posting trends over time. It takes just a few clicks with the company talent profile (in Analyst), and enables your team to come to the table informed, empowered, and ready to initiate a win-win partnership.
Enrollment Management and Marketing
In today’s crowded and competitive higher-ed market, even offering exceptional academic programs is not always enough. Enrollment management teams need to proactively engage prospective students with information that is relevant to them.
For working professionals looking to up-skill or switch careers, few data points are more relevant than employment outcomes. This also applies to post-traditional students seeking their first degree and needing to justify the strain it will place on existing family or work obligations (not to mention the cost!).
That’s why Emsi created GoRecruit—an easy-to-use tool that provides program-specific employment outcomes data for your graduates and helps you share that information through configurable infographics. It puts the data enrollment management and marketing teams need right at their fingertips, so you can demonstrate alumni success (and prove ROI) with solid data, and no hassle.
Measuring Outcomes
Once students graduate, it can be hard to stay in touch. Life gets busy, surveys go unanswered, and institutions are left wondering about the effectiveness and impact of their programs.
But, with Alumni Outcomes, you can see how your alumni are using their education in the real world. Alumni Outcomes is powered by a match process that marries Emsi’s profile database with your institution’s records. The result: detailed alumni employment outcomes data, available at the program level. Deliverables include a web interface for easy filtering and program analysis, as well as the raw data file with all available employment, education, and contact information for grads we are able to match.
If you’re looking to demonstrate the overall economic impact of your institution, or assess the potential impact of a new facility, Emsi’s team of economists can provide an impact study and/or capital analysis, like the ones we did for the University of Tennessee at Martin. Let us know what you’re looking to measure and we’ll work with you to gather the data, crunch the numbers, and tell the story.
If you have questions or would like to explore how Emsi data can help your institution further its mission, please contact us or visit our booth at UPCEA. We’d love to meet you and explore solutions together. See you in Seattle!
