Sometimes Dreams Come True

Don’t know if you saw this or not. It was on ESPN College Game Day. Back in the day, Game Day was a great show full of a lot of laughs. Now it’s become a lot slicker and a lot more commercialized. That’s the way of television so no fault of theirs.

Occasionally they do have some stories that grip your heart. Since there is so much randomness in humanity, we can find these stories every day. Sometimes the timing is perfect. Babe Ruth promises a home run to a kid in a hospital ward and then goes out and does it.  Yesterday the timing was perfect for this story.  Godspeed to Tyler Trent.  I am glad you got your wish.

A few years ago, a friend of mine asked me to play in a basketball game for his son Sam who had a glioblastoma brain tumor. To say the least, the outlook was not good. It was Sam’s wish to play in a game in a D-1 gym. We played and Sam hit the shot that won the game in overtime. You can’t make that up. Better yet due to the miracle of modern medical innovation, his son is still alive today.
