Bearded Ladies: From the Circus to the Campus

You can’t make this stuff up.

Back in the day when I was a kid, you had to go to a circus side show if you wanted to see a bearded lady (or tattooed one, for that matter). Nowadays, all you have to do is wander over to the nearest university campus. At least if you live in Berkeley.

That’s because a group of female paleontologists at UC Berkeley (where else?) are putting up a bearded lady exhibit to show that women can be paleontologists too.

What surporises me here is that this “educational” venture is being put on by a science department as opposed to the Women and Gender Studies department, which is a real side show in itself. They probably could have supplied plenty of lady professors with real beards.
