Major League Baseball World Series MVP Arrested for ‘Continued Sexual Abuse of a Child’

Wow.

Former Major League Baseball star John Wetteland’s been arrested. And the reason is particularly newsworthy.

The 1996 World Series Most Valuable Player is being accused of abusing a child under the age of 14. Sexually. Continually.

Wetteland posted $25,000 and was released from jail.

The 52-year-old star pitcher was traded to the Yankees in 1995; during the ’96 season, he led the league with 43 saves. For the Texas Rangers, he remains the all-time leader in saves.

Wetteland retired from baseball after the 2000 season, and he was welcomed into the Rangers Hall of Fame in 2005.

During his 12 seasons in the league — with the LA Dodgers, Montreal Expos, NY Yankees, and the Rangers — he accumulated 330 saves and an Earned Run Average of 2.93.

The Trophy Club, Texas resident’s case is being investigated by the Denton County Sheriff’s Department.

As per HuffPost:

Dowell declined to release further details, “due to the nature of the alleged offense and stage of the investigation.”

Stay tuned for more.
