Christ’s Coming as a Thief, but Not a Rapture: Here's How & When
We look at two “thief” passages and their context offers insight to a blind spot for most Christians today. Perhaps the least helpful is Rev 3:3 where Christ says, If you don’t watch, I will come on you as a thief.
It can be taken two ways. Most people think we should be aware spiritually and not get taken up by the cares of this life or worldly pursuits. That’s ok. ‘Watch’ is translated from gregoreo, meaning to be awake. We can’t be awake every night, but Passover was the only night it was commanded and that’s how Christ used it in Matt 26:38-41.
Passover is also an implied context of the most helpful thief text. “The day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night, for when they shall say ‘peace and safety,’ sudden destruction comes on them, as travail on a woman with child.” 1Thess 5:2,3
The overlooked Passover imagery is “as travail on a woman with child.” Egypt travailed with God’s first-born, Exod 4:22. But first-born implies another event like it.
God came invisibly (as a thief) and ‘executed judgment.’ He took Israel to a covenant and later said, “I am married to you,” Jer 3:14. That’s how the wedding parables fit because Paul included the Exodus in “all those things happened to them for our examples…ends of the world.” 1Cor 10:1,11.
Another clue would be a special group that get to follow Christ wherever He goes in eternity and they sing a song of Moses (Rev 15:3) because they have an experience like Moses. Rev 14:4 says they are virgins. Since the Bible explains itself, they must be the wise virgins that get in the wedding, Matt 25:10.
So again the wedding parables are linked and in Matt 25:6, we have a midnight cry, like Egypt had, Exod 12:29,30. Are we beginning to see a repeat of history? “What is to come has been already, and God summons each event back in its turn” Eccl 3:15, NEB
We may not have considered this, but the US is more deserving of judgment than Egypt. They killed some babies. The US has aborted 60+ million. It’s beyond our scope here, but we are entering a time of judgment when we should expect judgment. Peter linked it to things “reserved unto fire,” 2Pet 3:7. This year we’ve seen fiery volcanoes, fires in California, Hurricanes Florence & Michael, the Dow has lost all of its gains this year.

You’re late, and your modern day “end times” predictions are simply not true.
All the things the “end times” crowd teaches as yet to happen have already taken place over 2,000 years ago.
By 70AD, Jerusalem was destroyed and Daniel’s prophetic book was complete.
Attempting to make so many events a future happening is based upon the error of “dispensation”, brought into the
church by the likes of Cyrus Scofield and James Darby.
There is no “rapture” and the “tribulation” has already happened according to Daniel’s time frame.
Teaching these things as being yet to happen is deceptive and used only to create hollywood style drama.

nomorelabels: Thank you for writing as it gives opportunity to address several issues. I’m glad you see Scofield and Dispensationalism as error. But you should see that there is an end-time destruction of Jerusalem for several reasons.
#1. Zech 14:1,2 says ALL nations (not just Rome) will be gathered against Jerusalem for “the day of the Lord” (end-times.)
#2. The wedding parable in Matt 22 mentions the “remnant” (King James) get their city burned. 70 AD wasn’t “the remnant” and there was NO wedding then! This is about Christ’s coming as Bridegroom for those who are ready as in Luke 12:36,37.
#3. Jerusalem’s destruction was the 1st sign in Matt 24:1-3 and it should be a heads up to us that the rest will come imminently.
You think Daniel is all fulfilled, but you are missing Dan 12:4 that says the book is sealed until the time of the end (when it will have new meaning. This includes Daniel 8 where Gabriel tells Daniel that his vision of the ram & goat is at the time of the end.” The Medes & Persians of verse 20 are now Iraq & Iran–the vision is half fulfilled and our next war will be with Iran (my opinion of clear wording)
And not, the “tribulation” hasn’t begun yet–God is going to give His side power for 1260 days (Rev 11:3-6) and the next verse says then the beast will arise and make war–the beast gets power for equal time, 42 months in Rev 13:5 ..

Greybeard: Students of Scripture recognize meaning that is rewards by a deeper study than popular versions that are easy reading, but are not faithful to original words, like the Greek word, gregoreo meaning to be awake, which was their custom at Passover like Christ told His disciples. To say “watke up” easily misses that meaning and the meaning of the wedding parables that ALL have Passover imagery like you see in Luke 12:37–that’s like the Last Supper at Passover and “loins girded in Luke 12:35 was also at Passover in Exod 12:11.
The wording of Rev 3:17, that the last church is “blind and naked” suggests there is a problem with popular views. We need to keep an open mind as we try to understand what the Bible is saying. Thank you for sharing in the process.

Graybeard: I don’t think I’m adding to it–I’m explaining what I think God had in mind when He said, “Here a little, there a little,” because He wants us to become familiar with His Word and see the interconnections, maybe like links on Google where you type a word or phrase and it finds another place where you can understand it better. Since the meaning of the Greek word gregoreo means to be awake and we can’t be awake every night, it is helpful to understand that Passover was the biblical time of judgment (Exod 12:12) and it was the only night when Israel was commanded to be awake, Exod 12:10. That’s part of the law that Christ said would not pass until heaven and earth pass, Matt 5:18. I hope this helps…

In which there is only one staff….. one shepherd one fold….and as your jesus christ is yet to produce such….not him!
Graybeard: I believe there may be more Catholics in heaven than any other denomination, because many are sincerely doing all they know and God says, “In times of ignorance, He winks” Acts 17:30,31, but we are coming to a time of judgment when we must go by better information and people will need to come out of that system which is antichrist–in place of Christ they confess to priests or pray to Mary. Christ said to call no man Father, Matt 23:9, but from the priest to the pope (papa) they break clear Bible sayings.
