The Ancient Airships Of Atlantis

Before the Wright brothers the sky was conquered by daring men in astounding airships: rickety things held together with nails, glue, and a prayer. Hot air literally carried the balloon that brothers Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier launched into the wild blue yonder. During 1783 their balloon carried them into the unknown as they huddled in a flimsy wicker basket that swung precariously beneath the bloated airbag. Later, French engineer Henri Giffard flew the world’s first propeller-driven airship in 1852. Innovation and materials technology permitted German Count von Zeppelin to command the first rigid dirigible to slip the surly bounds of earth and pierce the skies in 1900.
But some researchers discount those relatively modern breakthroughs that opened up the skies to navigation. They claim that Mankind only rediscovered the principles and technology of flight that humans knew before the end of last Ice Age. They point to the possibility of the people of Nazca that may have flown hot air balloons high above the plains a mere 1,000 years ago. They refer to the famous ancient Indian aircraft, the fabled vimanas. And now they reveal the hidden history of the majestic sky ships that once dominated the swirling skies above the legendary lost super-city of old: the ancient airships of Atlantis…

The Nazca Plains balloons
Could the ancient people of Nazca have built anchored hot air ballons and directed the giant artwork etched into the barren plains beneath them? Researcher Jim Woodman believed it might be possible using the materials the people of Nazca used in their daily life, so he approached Julian Nott, the founder of the modern ballooning movement.
Nott listened to Woodman’s idea and although skeptical, decided to see if it was really possible.
“When Jim Woodman approached me with his idea that the people who created the Nazca lines could have seen them from hot air balloons I was intrigued but skeptical. Yet we successfully flew in a balloon that could have been built by the Nazca people a thousand years ago. And while I do not see any evidence that the Nazca civilization did fly, it is beyond any doubt that they could have.
If the people of Nazca could have made hot air balloons, why not other civilizations? Nott addresses that question.
“And so could the ancient Egyptians, the Romans, the Vikings, any civilization. With just a loom and fire you can fly! This raises intriguing questions about the development of science and, most of all, the intellectual courage to dare to fly, to dare to invade the territory of the angels.” [Nazca]
Mystery of the Vimanas
The ancient Indian Veda texts, long thought to relate religious mysticism, has been given a closer look over the past 100 years. The investigations revealed stunning insights into an advanced civilization that existed before the end of the last Ice Age. That civilization spanned a region that is now a part of India and may have battled with another advanced state located in what’s now the Mongolian Gobi Desert.
Over the past few decades especially, some investigators of the ancient culture described in the Sanskrit writings have attempted to convince archaelogists outside India that the amazing culture existed and the texts (or at least part of them) are real history and not myth.
Their claims are bolstered by the accidental discovery of amazing artifacts and additional ancient writings found in other documents kept in Indian museums and universities: detailed descriptions of the flying aircraft built by the ancients. The texts not only describe the engineering, but also outline their construction and flight characteristics.
Other sections of the Veda texts describe aerial warfare and an atomic war between a city-state in what’s now northern India and an unnamed city located somehwere in the Gobi Desert.
There is a region in the Gobi that is radioactive and has sand fused into nodules of green glass.
That a part of the Gobi’s still radioactive is amazing, yet another discovery made during the 1990s eclipses the radioactive sands of Mongolia: the remains of an ancient city in northern India that is still highly radioactive. That find sent some Indian university archaeologists scrambling to the site.

And then, a very strange artifact, the Wedge of Aiud, first unearthed in 1973, was given another look: a machined piece of metal made of an aluminum alloy. Originally thought to be about 400 years old, new tests have determined it’s from 18,000 B.C.E., from the Pleistocene Era, nearly 20,000 years before aluminum’s discovery in modern times.
Odder still, some experts believe the artifact may be part of an aircraft landing gear…possibly from one of the ancient Indian Vimana flying machines described in the Veda texts. [20,000 Year-Old Aluminum ‘Vimana’ Aircraft Landing Gear Discovered]
The airships of Atlantis
The legends of Atlantis permeate the myths of many cultures going back thousands of years. The Greek Plato who referred to the city—ancient even in his day—described it as a large island beyond the Pillars of Hercules.
Other researchers believe its location was off coastal Spain, near the Bimini Islands in the Caribbean, even was located in what’s now the Antarctic. Although the South Pole is unlikely and has been covered with ice for millions of years, it is certainly “beyond the Pillars of Hercules.”

Although much has been written of Atlantean technology including speculation the “Lost Continent” had submarine craft, motorized ships, a mysterious power crystal that supplied electricity to the primary city. Yet little has been written of the airships that may have sailed the skies and explored the four corners of the world at that time.
The first book that addressed the possibility of flying craft was William Scott-Elliot’s The Story of Atlantis and the Lost Lemuria published in 1909. [Free download of the book available here.]

Scott-Elliot decribed amazing technology and aircraft that skimmed the skies with silent majesty using a power lost in antiquity and still unknown today. He did not, however, rely upon any artifacts, texts, or physical evidence to support his incredible claims. Scott-Elliot divined the machineries of Atlantis from periodic sessions of what today is called ‘remote viewing.’
Sumerian art included what may have been ancient Vimanas
Remote viewing, made credible by the the CIA and the Pentagon, grew out of work conducted decades earlier by respected scientists like electronics genius Michael Faraday.
American physicists Harold E. Puthoff and Russell Targ teamed up with Stanford Research Institute’s Electronics and Bioengineering Lab. As their research began producing measurable results, the Pentagon became interested. At the time, the CIA and military intelligence tracked the ongoing paranormal and psychic experimenst by the Soviets and Red Chinese.
Scott-Elliot used a techniques similar to remote viewing to discern exactly what the Atlanteans did and how their society worked. He also researched the vanished land of Lemuria.
He wrote in his book about the construction of the airships: “The material of which the air-boats were constructed was either wood or metal. The earlier ones were built of wood—the boards used being exceedingly thin, but the injection of some substance which did not add materially to the weight, while it gave leather-like toughness, provided the necessary combination of lightness and strength. When metal was used it was generally an alloy—two white-coloured metals and one red one entering into its composition. The resultant was white-coloured, like aluminium, and even lighter in weight. Over the rough framework of the air-boat was extended a large sheet of this metal, which was then beaten into shape, and electrically welded where necessary. But whether built of metal or wood their outside surface was apparently seamless and perfectly smooth, and they shone in the dark as if coated with luminous paint. In shape they were boat-like, but they were invariably decked over, for when at full speed it could not have been convenient, even if safe, for any on board to remain on the upper deck. Their propelling and steering gear could be brought into use at either end.”
An incredibly detailed description, but no more so than some of the remote viewer CIA team that described Soviet military complexes that were later confirmed by spy missions flown by the supersonic surveillance aircraft, the SR-71 Blackbird.
That Atlanteans may have had aircraft is supported by tantalizing tidbits of information that survived the destruction of the great Library of Alexandria. Shreds of surviving scrolls detail much ancient history that’s been lost to modern times.
It’s also believed by some scholars that Atlantis existed at the same time that the super-state of ancient India existed about 15,000 to 20,000 years ago. They two may even have had trade agreements and if the Rama Empire (is it’s referred to today) had flying Vimana, then the Atlanteans probably had their own airships.
World Mysteries writes about the Indian and Atlantean empires: “The so-called Rama Empire of Northern India and Pakistan developed at least fifteen thousand years ago on the Indian sub-continent and was a nation of many large, sophisticated cities, many of which are still to be found in the deserts of Pakistan, northern, and western India. Rama existed, apparently, parallel to the Atlantean civilization in the mid-Atlantic Ocean, and was ruled by “enlightened Priest-Kings” who governed the cities, The seven greatest capital cities of Rama were known in classical Hindu texts as The Seven Rishi Cities.
But skeptics of the existence of Atlantis—let alone any Atlantean airships—are legion. It’s doubtful they will ever accept the evidence of ancient airships unless an archaeological dig accidentally unearths one in the future.
