How to win the war between good and evil
The Archons were whispered about in texts after the burning of the library at Alexandra with some mention of mysterious beings called Archons. But the powers that be spent 1,300 years cleaning up the records and had written out the Archons from our history. In 1947, texts were found in clay jars in Nag Hammadi in Egypt and, on these texts was a story of what the Nag Hammadi people, 2,000 years ago, thought the world was about.

Because hydropower relies on decent rainfall, we sometimes use cloud seeding over some catchments to produce a moderate increase in rainfall. Our cloud seeding program is reviewed by independent experts, and we seek to keep Tasmanians informed about it.

Hydro Tasmania’s cloud seeding program has been on hold since June 2016. We will not resume the program until there has been:
• a full internal review of the program, and implementation of any appropriate improvements; and
• extensive engagement with stakeholders.
What is cloud seeding?
Cloud seeding is a technique that increases rainfall in a target area. Hydro Tasmania has been involved in both experimental and operational cloud seeding over Tasmania and mainland Australia since 1964. In this time we have developed a great deal of knowledge and expertise in the area.
Our cloud seeding operations are conducted between May and October when conditions are suitable.
Cloud seeding in the right conditions can increase the amount of rain that falls over targeted catchments. Cloud seeding only occurs when the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts rain, and even then only if conditions are favourable for cloud seeding to be successful.
Environmental tests
In April and November 2014 soil samples were collected at two different locations in each of the townships of Queenstown, Rosebery and Zeehan.
Water samples were also collected from water bodies or creeks in or near these townships.
The samples were tested for acetone and dichlorobenzene as these two chemicals make up more than 95% of the cloud seeding solution. Neither chemical was detected in any of the samples. The test results can be viewed .
In a typical year the amount of silver iodide released as a result of cloud seeding is less than half of one teaspoon per square kilometre.
West coast study
A study of the socio-economic impacts of cloud seeding on the West Coast of Tasmania was completed during 2006/07 by Hydro Tasmania and the West Coast Council. It followed repeated criticism from the West Coast Council which represents residents and businesses who have expressed concerns about adverse impacts of cloud seeding-induced rainfall in the municipality.
Hydro Tasmania has suspended its cloud seeding program over the King catchment since 2008. We worked with the West Coast Council to improve communications and address community concerns over the cloud seeding program. Both parties acknowledge the differences of opinion that remain about the variability of weather patterns and the amount of scientific debate on cloud seeding.

• 1,4-Dichlorobenzene is an organic compound with the formula C6H4Cl2. This colorless solid has a strong odor. • EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
• Appearance: white solid. Flash Point: 65 deg C.
Warning! Causes eye, skin, and respiratory tract irritation. Excessive exposure may cause liver and kidney damage. May cause cancer based on animal studies. May cause lung damage. Material is a solid at room temperature that melts upon moderate heating into a combustible liquid with a flash point below 200°F(93.3°C). Sublimes (goes directly from solid to vapor form) readily at room temperature.

Potential Health Effects
Eye: Causes eye irritation. Exposure to high vapor concentrations may cause irritation. Solid particles of p-DCB are reported to be painful to the eyes.
Skin: Solid produces burning sensation when held in contact with the skin, but irritation is slight. A 69-year-old man contacting p-DCB in a treated chair developed skin lesions including swelling and discoloration; kidney damage also was reported. (Documentation of the TLV)
Ingestion: May cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause liver and kidney damage.
Inhalation: Causes respiratory tract irritation. May cause liver and kidney damage. Inhalation of vapors causes irritation of eyes, throat, and skin. Exposure may cause anorexia, nausea, vomiting, weight loss and hepatic necrosis with jaundice. Exposure may cause headache and rhinitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose). Signs and symptoms of overexposure listed by supplier include headache, dizziness/incoordination, nausea/vomiting, loss of consciousness, vertigo, confusion, anxiety, labored breathing, drowsiness.
Chronic: Possible cancer hazard based on tests with laboratory animals. May cause anemia and other blood cell abnormalities. Chronic inhalation may lead to decreased pulmonary function. Animal studies indicate that the product may affect the liver and kidneys. Prolonged inhalation studies in animals produced lung effects. A NIEHS study examined the relationship between blood concentration of 1,4-DCB and lung function measurements in 953 adult humans and found that 1,4-DCB was associated with reduced lung function. The impaired function occurred even when adults’ history of smoking was considered.
