Thoughts:

  • After a couple of down weeks Michael Thomas finally bounced back with an 11 catch performance against the Buccaneers. While Thomas still hasn’t found the end zone in a few weeks it was good to see him racking up the targets once again. Drew Brees has been spreading the ball around a lot more lately, which might be better for the Saints but not for Thomas’ fantasy fortunes so seeing him show up as that number one guy again was nice.
  • All the sudden the guy who just “moves the chains” in New England is starting to become a bit more of a red zone threat. Julian Edelman has found the end zone in two of the Patriots last three games and is coming off a very solid nine catch week against the Dolphins. The Patriots and Steelers game is expected to be very high scoring and so all four of the big receivers in the game should be great fantasy plays.
  • Now that Mitch Trubisky is back Allen Robinson’s fantasy stock should start to trend upwards again. Trubisky struggled last week, so hopefully this week he’ll have his legs under him a little more and the results will be a bit better. Trubisky does spread the ball around a fair bit, but at the end of the day Robinson is still the most talented guy in the group and the one with the most upside.
  • We have a lot of history that shows us that it can pay off to play the whatever receiver Patrick Peterson isn’t covering in a Cardinals game. This week that guy should be Calvin Ridley. The rookie has really had his struggles these last couple of weeks, but the whole Falcons offense has really struggled. This seems like a prime spot for him to bounce back and hopefully help some teams make the finals.
  • It’s not clear as of yet whether Odell Beckham Jr will be playing or not, but it is a good sign that he was at least practicing in a limited fashion. My rankings reflect him playing, but if he does end up missing this game you can bump Sterling Shepherd up about five spots. He didn’t blow the doors off last week, but Richard Sherman has been locking people down recently so don’t read too much into that.
  • I wouldn’t blame you if you have had your reservations about using Robby Anderson this week with so much on the line. That said, if you are considering it he might be better than your other options. Last week Sam Darnold returned under center and Anderson returned to the fantasy radar with four catches for 76 yards and a TD. This has been a terrible season for Anderson, there’s no way around that, but I still believe he’s a talented receiver and he and Darnold were just starting to click before the Darnold injury. Hopefully they can build on last week’s game and Anderson can end the season on a high note.
