Don’t Count on Pelicans Big Man Anthony Davis Going to the Lakers This Summer

Everyone that seems to think that Anthony Davis is going to be wearing gold and purple next season had better slow their roll, as it doesn’t sound like it’s going to happen.

If you checked any online sports betting around the NBA trade deadline, the odds seemed to have Davis heading to play with LeBron James, but the Lakers couldn’t get the deal done, and as far as getting something done this summer – it’s not happening according to Marc Spears of ESPN.

“I have been told that there’s no way Anthony Davis is coming here, through the Pelicans,” Spears said on ESPN (via NBC Sports). They’re just not going to do it.”

Los Angeles’ offer to the Pelicans around the trade deadline included the likes of Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and several others, as well as a couple future first-round picks, but New Orleans said ‘nope’ and instead decided to hang on to Davis and will look to deal him again this summer.

Davis is not eligible for free agency until of July 2020, but New Orleans is going to be anxious to rid themselves of the distraction and try to deal him this offseason.

Where and who that will be to remains to be seen, but it’s sounding more and more like it will not be out to the west coast and the Lakers.

The Pelicans canned general manager Dell Demps in February and have started their search for a replacement.

Former Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks GM Danny Ferry is filling the role on an interim basis, and it remains to be seen if he will end up in the role full-time.
