Science Fiction firsts and UFO firsts

The TLS (Times Literary Supplement) for January 4, 2019 has a review (Page 33) by Matthew De Abaitua of  Science Fiction: A literary history, Edited by Roger Luckhurst [British Library, £20].
The reviewer provides a discussion of various sci-fi genres and writes how some see Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein as the progenitor of science fiction whereas others see the works of H.G. Wells as the beginning of the sci-fi oeuvre, while some academics allude to ancient sci-fi: Antonius Diogenes “proto-scientific discourse of navigation” (mentioned here a short while back) and Cicero’s Somnium Scipionis (51 B.C.) that “contemplates Carthage from the galactic perspective of the stars.”
Sci-Fi’ New Wave is covered [Ballard, Stanislaw Lem, Ursula K. Le Guin, William Gibson, et al.] and its disparate offshoots.
The review is bountiful and encourages readers to get the book it’s about.
Why I bring it up is that my academic pal Bryan Sentes touches on sci-fi at his blog [skunkworksblog.com], and where a current piece by him mentions Gerald Heard’s often noted here 1950 UFO book The Riddle of the Flying Saucers: is another World watching that offered the idea that bees might be manning UFOs (flying saucers).
And that, along with the review, makes me wonder what happened to the offbeat speculations about flying saucers that imbued the topic in the late 1940s and 1950s.
UFO speculators didn’t become and haven’t become more sophisticated, that’s certain; they’ve even become more stupid and unintelligent (me, among them).
The UFO crowd and its writers are swimming in fetid waters polluted by hackneyed UFO accounts that reek of pathetic explanation or conjecture.
UFO sightings and events are slopped on the ufological table and we enthusiasts eat it up, not complaining about the unappetizing victuals.
In movies where are the vegetable-oriented creatures [The Thing From Another World], the emaciated aliens encapsulated in robot-like casings [Earth vs. The Flying Saucers], the robotic extraterrestrials [The Man from Planet X], or the God/Jesus ETs [The Day the Earth Stood Stillet cetera?
In UFO lore, where are, today, the humanoids or beings from Venus, Mars, and/or far away galactic star systems?
Sure, such suggestive sources for UFOs are foolish, but so is that which engulfs the UFO topic, skeptical offerings as silly (or more so) as the unimaginative renderings of the Ancient Astronaut gang or the side-liners who give nothing vibrant in their submissions of what UFOs are or may be.
In the sci-fi world, at least writers keep coming up with extensions of a world where anything is possible, while in the UFO world, bloggers, Facebookers, and writers have settled for mildewed reclamations of old flying saucer tales (Roswell particularly) and lackadaisical rehashings of controversial UFO arguments from the glorious UFO past.
It’s no wonder that the UFO story has been relegated to horrendous sci-fi like presentations as the History Channel’s Project Blue Book, where UFO buffs are over joyously accumulating, as a sop to their wayward jaunts back to their errant youth.
