Ufology is Doomed byThe History Channel's Project Blue Book

TV Guide‘s current issue, February 4-17, gives the History Channel’s Project Blue Book a “Cheer” (not a “Jeer”).

And mainstream news media has locked on to the silly show, that bolsters media’s long-time inculcation that UFOs and those who are attracted to the phenomenon (and its mythos) are numbskulls, moronic followers of something that media has pretty much determined is an aberrant mental condition.

And my skeptical pals are having a field day with all the sappy joy that History’s show is bringing to UFO buffs.

Over at my “former” pal Kevin Randle’s blog — I think he’s angry with me for my diatribes about the show and those who say they’re entertained by it — UFO skeptics are gleefully indulging in rubbing UFO believer noses in the “Project Blue Book” merde, foisted on viewers by the derelict History Channel.

And UFO enthusiasts continue to rage at Kevin’s blog and everywhere else about how they are enthralled with the show, which reminds them of the once popular The X-Files series.

(Even TV Guide refers to the History show as “playing like The X-Files.”)

But when the program abates, and my scorn about it, the UFO sightings it has marred with errant and debased details will remain in the ether of the public and UFO newbies, producing a warped overlay that encrusts the UFO phenomenon even further with the idea that it’s all hogwash.

And UFO skeptics are jumping with joy. See my buddies, Lance Moody and Zoam Chomsky (Aaron Sakulich) posts at Kevin’s blog.

We, who have rummaged in the UFO playground for years, are undercut by other UFO buffs, on the fringe of ufology, who proclaim, loudly and often, that the History Channel’s show is like manna from heaven, a dramatic fiction that fills their guts with nourishment because it brings — no matter how mealy — into the light of day that UFOs have rarely provided.

That serious UFO enthusiasts allow such tripe as the History Channel is foisting on the public as “based in fact” goes to more than an idiotic affection for foolishness. It cements a meme in the current zeitgeist that will kill ufology once and or all.
