I was preparing this piece, because of all the bad news on ABC Saturday night, 3/16/19, about how it seems the gods are using various methods in their “playful” approach to humanity, as Greek mythology informed us in antiquity.
I was going to insert weather travails, diseases (The Black or Bubonic Plague et cetera). Elevating madmen to power over society (Adolph Hitler, et al.), personal evil (the killing of innocents), famines, and all the other woes besetting society each and everyday, for all of human time on Earth.
Then I get this New York Times headline, about the New Zealand Mosques killings:
God is testing us?
You know by now that I believe in a creator God, leaving open His creation of lesser gods as many religions tell us.
But, again, I’m thrown into mental quandary.
Yes, it seems to me that a lesser god (Yahweh) inspired the early Hebrews (Jews) to think they were a chosen people, and they were, but not for propitious reward but ongoing pains and sufferings for a monumental, unjustified time.
So I, like the Gnostics and such thinkers as Carl Jung, came to think that God above god was impervious to humanity, in this vast cosmos in which we find ourselves, and the lesser god had evil dominion over humankind.
With a God, the real God, removing Itself from our existence (see Richard Elliot Friedman’s The Hidden Face of God), we were (and are) subject to the whims of a lesser god and his compatriots who are toying with us, UFOs being one of the minor playthings (toys) used by this malevolent being and its coterie of helpers.
UFOs, which have always existed in a context of human history, first appearing as atmospheric entities and seen as such by ancient peoples – except for the Jews who perceptually saw them as physical creations of their God.
Throughout history UFOs have been a meager matter for mankind, benign and silly like a toy for an immature god, the phenomenon changing shape (form) and behavior for the period when they were offered: early emanation as chariots, airships of the late 1800s, and then (for our time) as advanced vehicles suitable for space flight.
Now here’s where my thinking reverts to the questions of reality and physical rumination.
I’ve always preferred the idea of an eternal God (as religions) and eternal universe (as Fred Hoyle suggested) with the Big Bang as a non sequitur, arriving from nothing or a speck so infinitesimal that positing that point as the beginning of time and our universe’s beginnings are simply insane.
But then what about a God or universe in existence eternally?
That, too, is mentally irrational. Where is the beginning of such a God or such a universe or many universes?
The idea is ludicrous on its face.
The idea that God is testing us or playing with us makes almost no sense, except that either idea is less foolish than that this creation and its evolution happened accidentally.
But then what of UFOs? What is their purpose, other than a side-bar or prank by a mischievous entity?
And why do some of us continue to pursue the prankish things when there are more profound mysteries to contend with?
