The first “Reality is a Simulation” theory: Plato’s Cave

Plato, for me, is the greatest of all philosophers, all.

My academic pal and scholar Bryan Sentes will disagree surely, preferring Immanuel Kant I bet.

And some of you have your preferences.

The great theologian Thomas Aquinas cited Aristotle as the Philosopher, which others have also adopted as the greatest philosopher, but that is an errant citation. (And I am a fervent Aquinas junkie.)

Aristotle was immersed in natural reality whereas Plato was cognizant of the Reality above reality and gave us a succinct and clear allegory of that true Reality:

The current ripple of the idea that we (humans, Earth, everything) may be a computer-like simulation, controlled by a master manipulator — the evil demiurgos of the Gnostics, a mad alien (extraterrestrial), or a force that we can call God – is making the rounds in some internet and print press circles, even within academia.

The Matrix-like idea is heavily touted by such personages as Elon Musk and others:

But, for me, Plato’s allegory presents the essence of the idea and shows that it is an ancient meme.

I know it’s hard for UFO folks to tackle a metaphysical or obtuse conjecture, probing the UFO enigma debilitating enough as it is.

But with the upsurge of (new) Tic-Tac, Go Fast, and Gimbal UFOs all over the place, and not being attributed to extraterrestrial visitors or even a quantum leap in Earthian technology, one has to consider the possibility that we humans may be fodder for an insane omnipresent creator of our reality, about which we have little or nothing to say or input.
