UFO Podcasts [All Podcasts actually] are not for me: Ephemera

I’m not inclined to listen to UFO talkers on podcasts, or even watch YouTubers talking about UFOs. The conversations are often (usually) facile, as one blogger, a visitor here, noted recently at his blog, about a recent, popular UFO YouTuber who’s latest effort was discursive and content-ramshackle [my words, not his, but that was the gist].

I have a few TV interviews highlighting UFO notables online at YouTube but I’d not presume to host a current UFO notable – are there any? – with the idea of presenting anything worthwhile on the topic. Such dialogues either end up off-topic or flittering away as flummery.

And that god-awful “eerie music” that often opens or surrounds “broadcasts.” Have ufologists no taste or refinement?

Listening to conversations or anything verbal is a lost cause for me and others who need to note or recall important material.

In a NY Times piece about the benefits of listening or reading – which is better: neither – there was this, which applies to me and others who take UFOs seriously:

And some of you know I’m a follower of the ideas in Walter Miller’s classic sci-fi novel A Canticle for Leibowitz:

The suggestion(s) of Walter Miller were iterated in HBO’s just ending series Years and Years, in which Brits, in a near-future, find themselves harking back to paper as electronic content is compromised or not available because of failures in the systems that provides them.

But today, UFOs (and other) content is not only ephemeral but often trite or banal.

We of the UFO community, no matter how close or far we are from the UFO metropolitan centers of ufology, are struggling to get access to substantive material about UFOs, you all know that.

But it’s not forthcoming or available, not only because there are few who provide materials equitable to that of the past, but because many UFO adventurers are trying to get a spotlight rather that offer information that is worthwhile. They want to entertain rather than enlighten.

For me, a book and a highlight pen can not only be concrete but edifying.

The podcasters can talk all they want but after their initial forays, their efforts go the way of clouds.

Liebowitz warned us.
