The Edge Of A Rebellion

Between June 11 and June 28, 1776, a group of men met in Philadelphia with the goal of drafting a statement which declared the independence of the 13 colonies from the British Empire.  By the time the statement, historically known as the Declaration of Independence, was completed, the Colonies had been in a state of war with Great Britain for more than a year. The document contained nothing original. Even Thomas Jefferson recognized this fact when he stated:

Neither aiming at originality of principle or sentiment, nor yet copied from any particular and previous writing, it was intended to be an expression of the American mind, and to give to that expression the proper tone and spirit called for by the occasion.  (Thomas Jefferson)

After the Revolutionary War ended, The Constitution of the United States followed, going into effect on March 4, 1789 as the Supreme Law of the land. The principles contained in both documents have been the guiding light of freedom for many people, not all of whom are American. They have guided us through a terrible Civil War, two World Wars, and many conflicts. Through it all, they have stood the test of time, and built this country into the most formidable military and economic force in the world.

Today, however, there is a rather vocal thirty percent of socialist Americans who call the founding documents of this nation “outmoded” or “obsolete.”  They have even gone so far as to suggest that it is time these supposedly “outmoded” and “obsolete” documents should be replaced, ostensibly with some form of socialism or communism.  Combined with the attempts to remove firearms from the American population, one can only surmise that these socialists propose something that most Americans would not agree to, and hope to force this outcome on us against our will.  

Unfortunately for the minority thirty percent or so socialist Americans, there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of United States veterans who have been taught about the truth of communism, and even fought against it in battlefields all over the world.  Don’t think for a second these battle hardened US veterans would not openly revolt against the American socialists who believe they have the political power and legal methods available to them to ultimately force their will upon the American people.  They would.

The Socialists may ague these veterans are too old, or would lose too much if they took a stand  against them. They are dead wrong. Veterans know what its like to live with nothing, and can rapidly adapt to the situation if needed. In addition, millions of young Americans are vehemently opposed to communism, and would stand with the veterans.

So it appears the die is cast, and all that remains is some type of event to instigate a rebellion. Veterans don’t relish the thought of a war, so you can bet the young, idealistic socialists will be the one to instigate it. The only question is what would the event look like? Only time will tell. The scenario presented below is only a wild guess, but its just as good as any.  

What would a rebellion look like?

Phony War

Immediately upon the initiation of a rebellion, you can expect a “phony war” period. This period of time of often observed in war and conflicts, and usually consists of people choosing what side they will be on. Military personnel will choose their side; so will police, firefighters, and other public servants. Lots of flags would be waving, and a lot of people would be talking patriotism. It’s a time for talkers. The doers will emerge later.

You could expect the media to side with the socialists. So would the academic, much of the political, homeland security, and entire segments of major cities. The Constitutionalists would control entire segments of the rural countryside, large portions of the military, and many of the nation’s local police and sheriffs departments.

Phony wars are usually the time in warfare when organizations form. You would see the Constitutionalists form land, air, and naval forces, and consolidate their hold on territory.

The socialists would do their very best to intimidate the US Military to take their side. They would only be partially successful. They would probably also invite the United Nations and NATO into the country to assist them in putting down the rebellion, to which both would gleefully participate.

Skirmishes would be fought, but only on small scale, as each side seeks to determine how the other side fights.

 At the end of the phony war period, the battle lines would be drawn, and the military forces of both sides would be fully formed and trained. That would set the stage for the next chapter.  

Battlefield Shaping

Battlefield shaping operations would become visible as the Phony War stage progressed. In a nutshell, battlefield shaping is an attempt by a commander to form a battle-space to his liking, place his forces in the correct place to exploit it, and to place the enemy at a distinct disadvantage when the battle begins. Refugees would also become visible, as they fled the future battlefields.  

The Military Conflict

At some point, the phony war would end, battlefield shaping would cease, and and the real war would begin. Although I am speculating, the tactics used in a civil war of today would be far different than those used in the American Civil War of 1861-1865. Technology would make sure of the fact that this would be a far bloodier and nastier conflict.

The battles of this conflict would range from small, irregular forces of both sides who would primarily use commando style raids to advance their goals, to large scale mechanized warfare in rural and urban areas. It can be expected that air warfare would be used by both sides; and naval forces would be fielded by both sides. Combined civilian and military casualties would most likely equal about 10 percent of the American population, or approximately 35 million people. Few of the soldiers, sailors or airmen who began the conflict would live to see the end of it.

The Political Conflict

The political goals of the socialists would be to force the American population into unconditional submission to their rule, and a transition to full blown Communism.

The goal of the Constitutionalists would be to restore the Constitutional form of government to the United States, remove all socialist laws and regulations that undermine the republic, and decisively defeat socialism and communism in the United States forever.  

Propaganda and psyops would form a vital part of both sides approach to the conflict. So would legal affairs, as both sides collected evidence to use in later war crimes trials.

The Resistance

In occupied areas of the country, resistance organizations would be formed. The primary goal of resistance is to simply survive at first. Later, resistance organizations morph into combat units that are very effective at controlling an area of geographical control. It would be expected that both sides would field resistance organizations.

Starvation and  Refugees

During a war, agriculture is interrupted, and economies fail. The black market usually reigns supreme. In the case of a civil war in the United States, famine would not be an unexpected result, at least in the short term, until regional markets began to form to meet local needs.

The final outcome

The final outcome of the conflict would depend in large part on the fortunes of war, and the ability of one side or another to rapidly adapt, innovate, and overcome adversity. If I had to make an educated guess however, I would bet on the Constitutionalists. They have the higher moral cause, and the most to lose.

Closing

 No person in their right mind would ever want a second civil war in the United States, but to believe that it couldn’t happen again is not realistic. Especially when the people have a completely unresponsive and out of control government who seems intent on imposing an agenda upon us that is foreign to most Americans. They cant continue to thumb their nose at the common people much longer.

The goal of this article is to make people think. Presently, there is no rebellion, and there is no civil war raging. There is still time to work things out.  At some point though, that time will pass, and events will take over.

The media needs to return to its role as a watchdog. The politicians need to return to representing their constituents and not their own interests. The people need to have the assurances that their work is not in vain, and they wont lose everything they own in ten year intervals for the rest of their lives. The President needs to be leader of all Americans, not a minority of radical Americans.
