Bombshell: Irish Times: U.S. DIRECTLY giving "funds and guns" to Ql Qaeda!
Don’t let the mainstream media let you forget! Recall that “Nusra” or the fuller name, Jabhat al-Nusra, is an Al Qaeda affiliate…Irish Times bravely reminds readers of this twice before sharing this bombshell, or if you already knew, the fact that a WESTERN media newspaper is openly stating it, is itself a kind of bombshell of honesty:
“In March, Nusra received injections of funds and guns – which found their way to IS – from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the US as well as an influx of fresh fighters routed through Turkey. US-supplied artillery shells, mortars and Tow anti-tank missiles were key to the battle for Idlib in April and continue to account for advances of the so-called Army of Conquest, which has taken control of most of Idlib.”
Let’s break that down: the guns and funds “found their way” to the ultra extreme Islamic State (IS), but even if we “assume” that was “by mistake” (bear with me) the fact is it was DIRECTLY given to Al Qaeda – to Nursa by “Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the U.S.”!
Just because ISIS also known as ISIL and known as “IS” (Islamic State) is getting the most headlines for extreme brutality, does not mean we should allow ourselves to forget that not only are the so-called “moderate” Syrian rebels brutal and ISIS-affiliated (or “cooperating” with ISIS) badly enough, but between the (already very bad) so-called “moderates” brutal Syrian rebels, and the ISIS maniac level of violence, there is Al Qaeda, which is (at best) just a small stone throw away from ISIS in terms of its intention to create anti-west terrorism.
This was not even true about the Taleban, who actually tried to WARN the west when the Taleban found out Al Qaeda, their “guests” were planning a huge attack (see BBC story, yes I said BBC, not some fringe conspiracy site, but BBC, reported it, the Taleban were not being “nice” they were smart enough to know the U.S. would attack Afghanistan, so they decided their guest, Al Qaeda, despite being ultra Islamist (which Taleban liked) was a BAD guest..but U.S. and Europe were NOT interested in hearing about the warning from the Taleban who tried, out of self-interested reasons, to warn the U.S. to protect U.S. lives, see: 7 September, 2002, “Taleban ‘warned US of huge attack’ ” at : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/2242594.stm )
The Taleban were brutal and extremist – but their focus was mostly internal as above suggests – but AL QAEDA is all about terrorism around the world against civilian and other soft targets as well as military targets. I am a left-leaning writer who opposed the disasters of the 2003 Iraq invasion, but strangely enough I need to remind U.S. and other English language readers, that Al Qaeda is not some “soft” group – they are extremists, and now funding by U.S. is stated by Irish Times.
Without question, even indirect funding would be and outrage, and of course, tens of billions of dollars of U.S. support and military “aid” to the head-chopping Saudi brutal dictatorship, ALREADY means indirect U.S. support for Al Qaeda and various jihadi extremists directly given by the Saudi regime. So indirect is already there, and outrageous.
Now even Western reports are talking about direct “injections of funds and guns” to “Nusra” meaning to Al Qaeda.
Iranian fighters go to Syria to help defend Damascus
Foreign forces arrive as Islamic State has said it will mount an offensive against the capital

Thousands of Iranian, Afghan and Iraqi fighters have arrived in Syria to defend Damascus and its suburbs against Islamic State (IS), which has said it will mount an offensive against the capital following recent battlefield successes in Deir al-Zor and Palmyra.
So far, 7,000 have reportedly been positioned around the city. They are expected to go on the offensive to retake from fundamentalist militiamen the suburb of Jobar from which they can easily access the eastern gates of the city.
The total number of reinforcements sent by Iran could rise to 15,000 when fighters reach the northern port of Latakia to defend the government-controlled coastal region from assaults by al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra, which has imposed its rule over most of the northern Idlib province on the Turkish border.
Iran’s state news agency Irna has quoted the head of the elite Quds force of the Revolutionary Guards, as saying, “In coming days the world will be surprised by what we are preparing in co-operation with Syrian military leaders.”
Defence agreement
Iran has sent the forces under a 2006 joint defence agreement and a 2009 memorandum of understanding permitting Iran to intervene militarily if approached by the Syrian government. According to sources in Damascus, Iran began to discuss the deployment in April following major military reversals in the northwest and east.
Fearing overt involvement by ground forces could harm chances of a deal over its nuclear programme, Tehran hesitated to act until it became clear that the Syrian army and its militia allies could not continue to contain IS and al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra.
Shia Iran was also loath to transform the Syrian war into the Shia-Sunni sectarian conflict that Sunni Saudi Arabia and its allies claim it is.

Free Syrian Army
While US weapons were provided to groups associated with the [so-called "moderate" brutal rebels of the] “Free Syrian Army”, they have fought alongside Nusra in the Army of Conquest.
Nusra has been the main beneficiary as it has made Idlib its main base. Under orders from al-Qaeda central in Pakistan, Nusra has attempted to integrate with local Syrian forces. This policy contrasts with that adopted by IS, which relies on foreign fighters who, in some locations, constitute 60 per cent of deployment.
While al-Qaeda’s leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has tried to create and maintain a distinction between Nusra and IS, this fails on the ground when the two join forces in battle or fighters migrate with their weapons from one to the other, as they did recently during the struggle for the Yarmouk quarter south of Damascus.
Forces welcomed
Syrians living in areas under government control have been wary of direct Iranian involvement, but recent military reverses by Damascus’s forces have, reportedly, effected a change of mind and Iran’s reinforcements have been welcomed by many.
Iran initially backed the government because of a long-standing strategic alliance which dates from 1980, the onset of the eight-year Iran-Iraq war when Syria sided with Tehran rather than Baghdad. Although the Syrian Baathist regime adopted this stand because of its bitter rivalry with the Iraqi Baathist government, Damascus’s alliance with Tehran alienated the Saudis and its Gulf partners which financed the Iraqi war effort. [Alienated? They were upset that Syria helped Iran DEFEND ITSELF from the attack by U.S.-backed Saddam Hussein in the 1980s?? This "Alienated" is a very thin defence, a pathetic fig leaf, for yet another case of Saudi dictatorship's aggression, and the "Gulf Partners" call them what they are: they are also brutal dictatorships, brutal U.S.-backed dictatorships of Qatar, peaceful-protester murdering Bahrain etc]
