Hillary Clinton Responsible for Honduran Coup that Killed Thousands

In Hillary Clinton’s role as Secretary of State, Benghazi wasn’t the only International crisis that she botched. Her role in the Honduras coup lead to years of violent conflict and the deaths of thousands of Hondurans.

In her memoir “Hard Choices”, Hillary Clinton dedicated an entire chapter to her involvement in Latin America and a whole section of that chapter on the little known Honduran Coup that ousted the country’s democratically elected President Manuel Zelaya.

Clinton freely admits she used her power as Secretary of State to make sure that Zelaya would not return to office. Zelaya’s crime for which he got ousted; in November 2008 he called for a national poll to be added to the scheduled election asking the country if they wanted a nonbinding referendum to draft a new constitution.

The military along with the Supreme Court and Zelaya’s political opponents declared he was attempting to end the term limits that prevented him from running again. By June 2009 the country was in turmoil with Zelaya having been held at gunpoint by the military and forced to fly to a U.S military base dressed only in his pajamas. The United Nations and the Honduran Embassy immediately declared the ouster an illegal and unconstitutional coup. However, Obama’s White House and Secretary Clinton refused to acknowledge it as such.

Clinton even tried to whitewash everything, convince the world and Honduras’s neighboring states they should accept the change of leadership and endorse the idea of normalizing ties with the coup government. In March 2010, she meet with coup installed president, Pepe Lobo and said quote: “We think that Honduras has taken important and necessary steps that deserve the recognition and the normalization of relations. I have just sent a letter to the Congress of the United States notifying them that we will be restoring aid to Honduras. Other countries in the region say they want to wait a while. I don’t know what they’re waiting for, but that’s their right, to wait.”

Since the coup, violence and assassinations have skyrocketed in Honduras specifically targeting journalists, environmentalist and LGBT civil rights activists. The homicide rate in Honduras, already the highest in the world, increased by 50 percent from 2008 to 2011. In 2012, 90 people were murdered for every 100K inhabitants. That’s four times the rate of Mexico. San Pedro Sula in Honduras is the murder capital of the world with homicide rates at 187 per 100K inhabitants.

It’s estimated that between 1993 and 2003 over 200 Hondurans were killed because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. From June 2009 to June 2010 there were 76 political murders, 10 journalists were murdered, 3,033 illegal arrests, 127 political arrests, 108 death threats, 818 attacks by the police on citizens, 27 of those were attacks on the media, 26 were on journalists, and 21 were LGBT. Between 2010 and 2014 over 100 environmental activists have been killed. In one of the nation’s most high profile assassination cases, Berta Cáceres the Goldman prize-winning indigenous leader and environmental activist was murdered in March of 2016.

Before her death she taped an interview where she solidly blamed Honduras’s current political and economic turmoil firmly on the shoulders of Hillary Clinton. Later in that interview Cáceres explains that what was installed after the coup was something like a permanent counterinsurgency on behalf of transnational capitalism. And it wouldn’t have been possible if it were not for Hillary Clinton’s normalization of the election.

Watch the powerful documentary about the Honduran coup called “We are not afraid”. It’s a detailed account of the events surrounding the Coup and what has happened to the country since. A slight caution though, as an American watching this documentary nothing is left to the imagination. Murder is murder and death is death. This is hard core violent and disturbing.

And now here’s the really shocking repercussion of Hillary’s involvement in this coup. More than 60% of the estimated 600K Hondurans in the U.S. are illegal and the number of unaccompanied minors from Honduras apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border shot up from less than 7,000 in fiscal year 2013 to more than 17,500 through July 2014.

That means Honduras has more illegals coming through Mexico than any other Latin american country. In fact, the overall unauthorized immigrant population flooding into the U.S. from every other nation aside from Honduras has decreased each year by 8% from 2007 to 2012. But the unauthorized immigrant numbers from Honduras have increased every year since 2007.

So when we talk about a wall to keep the Mexicans out we first must recognize that those coming here from South America are in fact Honduran by a far larger percentage than any other Latin American country. And why is that? It’s because Hillary Clinton single handedly created this problem.
