The nuclear bombing of 2 non military targets composed only of civilians was supposed to be necessary to end the war, rather than two military targets. This was of course on top of the firebombings of other wooden built cities including Tokyo.
It would be like Russia today nuking
Kiev and Kharkov to end the war in Ukraine.
Think of the morality of that decision then transfer that to Japan 1945.
It’s called barbarism. They flattened every German city from the air as well in WWII, again, never talked about. Again, no military significance. Fallujah in Iraq, Belgrade in Serbia, nothing but killing sprees.
It’s what the USA and their Aunty, Great Britain do.

Although the horrors of Nagasaki and Hiroshima burning for no military significant reason you’d think couldn’t get any worse, even this pales into insignificance by comparison when you realise Japan had already surrendered, not once, not twice but three times and the USA refused to acknowledge their surrender.
Psychologically Americans coped quite well. They weren’t bothered by Japs burning. For them they were the same as hanging negroes or poisoning Indians. It’s OK as long as the government says it is.
Hell most Americans to this day support the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. It’s part of who they are. It’s the culture.
