Russia doesn’t care what the West thinks. Let’s just Look at the two realities. One is fact-based, the other one is fantasy-based. The Russian reality is a fact-based realit. Russia is going to win this war. Ukraine can’t beat them and if NATO  wants a fight, then everybody dies. That’s the Russian position. The NATO position is we can bleed Russia to death by using Ukraine as a proxy. How’s that working? The Russians just recaptured the entire 2014 original line of demarcation in the Donbass and now they’re moving past that, and you were seeing the absolute total collapse of the Ukrainian forces on the battlefield in the Donbass. One of the reasons is because the Ukrainians committed their strategic reserves  to Kurst where they’re now trapped. The incursion has become an absolute embarrassment for Ukraine. It’s no longer seen as a political Victory. It is a strategic defeat because the reserves Ukraine needs to stabilize the front are stuck and being killed and there’s nothing they can do about it.

Ukraine is also suffering political collapse. Almost the entire cabinet resigned on 7 Se[ptember 2024 yesterday. Zilinski is struggling, his political support is collapsing, economically Ukraine will not survive this winter and that’s one of the realities which Ukrainian politicians and their supporters in the west are having to come to grips over. Ukraine will not  survive this winter. Looking at it from the Russian perspective, why would you waste any time dealing with the fantasy-driven theories of the West?

Scott Ritter is a former Marine intelligence officer who served in the former Soviet Union, implementing arms control agreements, and on the staff of General Norman Schwartzkopf during the Gulf War, where he played a critical role in the hunt for Iraqi SCUD missiles. From 1991 until 1998, Mr. Ritter served as a Chief Inspector for the United Nations in Iraq, leading the search for Iraq’s proscribed weapons of mass destruction. Mr. Ritter was a vocal critic of the American decision to go to war with Iraq. His new book, Disarmament in the Time of Perestroika: Arms Control and the End of the Soviet Union, is his ninth.
