Netanyahu turned his focus to Qatar, accusing the Gulf nation of utilizing its immense wealth to distort international perception of Israel. He claimed Qatar is spending billions of dollars to “spread lies” by funding U.S. universities and backing prominent news outlets like Al Jazeera. Netanyahu stated that these funding efforts serve to “brainwash young minds to hate Israel, hate America, hate the West.”

The speech took place amid intense diplomatic friction and just a month before Israel’s tightly contested October 27 election. Reports indicate that delegates from roughly 77 countries—including numerous Arab, Asian, African, and Latin American nations, as well as European states like Spain and Ireland—vacated the room in a coordinated protest against Israel’s military actions. The United States delegation remained in the hall. Despite the empty seats, Netanyahu strongly defended Israel’s conduct, describing the ongoing regional tensions as a “seven-front war” anchored by Iran. He firmly rejected international accusations of genocide, stating that Israel was fighting to survive and “had no other choice. Netanyahu also took aim at local critics, explicitly slamming New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who had previously labeled him a war criminal, saying, “Shame on you for distorting the facts”.
