From child killer in the U.S. to hitman for “Los Zetas” in Mexico

Chihuahua. – A child killer who escaped from a prison in New Mexico was recently captured in Mexico. He had become a hit man with the ultra violent drug cartel “Los Zetas”, officials said.
Edward Salas was identified by authorities as a “sicario”, name commonly used to describe a killer hired by organized crime. It is unclear at this time how many murders he may have committed in Mexico, if he did.
Salas, who was on the list of most wanted by the Marshals Service in the United States, was arrested outside a store Thursday in Chihuahua, after a four year international search, according to officials of New Mexico and Mexico.
Salas escaped from the Detention Center in Clovis Curry County in August 2008 with seven other prisoners through a hole in the roof. He was later located in Texas and was on the run since then.
At the time of his escape, Salas was serving a life sentence plus 56 years for his participation in the death of Carlos Perez, 10, on September 5, 2005.
The child was killed by a bullet to the head while sleeping in his room in the community of Clovis in eastern New Mexico, a day before the 11th birthday.
Authorities said Salas and three accomplices fired five shots through a window of the apartment.
