David Porteous is a critically acclaimed Canadian singer/songwriter
and documentary filmmaker who currently resides in Toronto, Canada.
Now 28-years-old, David began writing music at age 11 and making his
own films at the age of 12.
Since 1999, he has produced and recorded 25 solo music releases, had
his first radio play on CBC Radio 2 at the age of 14, written numerous
film scores, music for a nationwide run television commercial, has
been nominated as an Olympic Torchbearer, was a CBC Sunday “Spotlight
Artist”, a NOW Magazine “Critic’s Pick”, has a Honours Diploma in
Sound Engineering and a Degree in Documentary Filmmaking.
When David Porteous first heard about the N.D.A.A, he was shocked of
it’s resemblance to political policy practiced by non-democratic
nations.
David comments, “I made a decision early on in life that if I was
going to write music, it should be about something important. The
N.D.A.A. is a clear abuse of power, no only to Americans, but to people
around the world. I cannot understand how a democratic government can
justify the indefinite detention of people without charge or trial.
There is a popular belief that dissent against political policy stems
from an unpatriotic mindset. This could not be farther from the truth.
What we call freedoms were granted to us as the result of hard work of
the generations before us. It is our duty to uphold and defend these
freedoms, as once they are gone, they are almost impossible to get
back.”
