Guantanamo's 166 Prisoners Named: Write to Them!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Thanks to human rights advocate Andy Worthington and Witness Against Torture (WAT), below are the names of the 166 detainees held at Gunatanamo Bay, each needing support more than ever by every American opposing torture and the so-called war on terror.

Guantanamo Bay Prison will now be kept open indefinitely, according to the Australian Herald on Sunday, as the detainees attempt to starve themselves to death due to the U.S. military’s torturous treatment of them.

The prison has fast been deteriorating, as have detainees held there. Their lawyers say most prisoners there are on a hunger strike and many are having tubes forced into them to keep them alive.

In solidarity of the detainees, people across the globe began fasting today.

A fomer official from the prison said this week that it is up to the American people to close the facility.

[See: Official: Closing Gitmo is up to American people]

“The Obama administration had promised to close down the Guantanamo camp but Congressional bills have ensured the prison is likely to remain a detention camp despite repeated complaints of torture and mistreatment,” the herald reports

Despite the Obama administration and congressional decisions, WAT is urging Americans to do their part to shut the torture facility for good.

Letter Writing Campaign

“Please consider sending a letter to one of the prisoners in Guantanamo,” WAT says.  ”It is our hope that by flooding the prison with letters of support and solidarity, prison officials will take note that the world has not forgotten the hunger strikers.”

A letter written by Witness Against Torture can be downloaded and printed off here.

When writing to the detainees, “please ensure you include their full name and ISN (internment serial number) below (these are the numbers before their names, i.e. Shaker Aamer ISN 239),” WAT says.

Please include a return address on the envelope and address all letters to:

Remember: Gitmo is tip of the US global prison complex iceberg.

Here’s a message they can ALL share: Hey, Mohammed…why not cut your throat so you can join your virgins in Muslim heaven!

    • gunrunner

UP YOUR’S,,,A$$ HOLE,,,THEY came to kill American’s FOOL,,turn them out and maybe they will only kill your family and friend’s instead of torturing and beheading them..

actually fool… most of the gitmo prisoners have been declared innocent. ohh.. and by the way, 9/11 wasnt muslims..

No, don’t write to them. They should be interrogated by any means necessary to get them to talk. Then, if they’re guilty they should be executed.

Hmmm, then by Obomba’s decrees you wood be “collaborating” with a “terrorist”…and wood then qualify for “enemy combatant status”…and a drone fly-over, or at the very least accommodations at a FEMA camp near you.

Sounds like a honey trap t’me.

I’ve never seen such backward, uneducated, can’t think for themselves rags of humanity daring to speak out publicly. I am ashamed to be counted as an American among you. You believe the lies of 9-11. Truth – Inside Job. The only country in the Middle East that was involved with creating and delivering 9-11 was Israel. These Muslim people in out illegal prison have done nothing wrong. Al Queda is a CIA operation. Wake up, nimrods. Truth is all around you. Soak some of it up.

      • wrebi

Awesome Bella I couldn’t agree more. If anyone has done their research they would know that not all prisoners are quilts and the innocent are tortured until they confess to something they haven’t done. We incarcerate innocent people all the time in the US so why are they automatically guilty? Brava use they have a Muslim name? Grow up people. You can start with your research here http://m.democracynow.org/stories/13538

    • bigbobswinden

Torture can get false confessions out of nearly everybody. Treat others as you would have them treat you, give them their day in court. The law of brutality is not in anybody’s interests in the long run, it just makes an enemy of people who could have been good friends.

I think the sharks off the coast of Cuba need fed. Maybe feeding the sharks some live meat would make PETA happy.

    • GadgetmanPrime

Why is it the names of all Americans who are being detained there are omitted from this list?

I have it from first-hand testimony the number of Americans detained there are more than twice the number of foreigners. Not only that, but no one is allowed to speak to them, nor are they allowed to speak to anyone else.

These people need to be contacted as well, and I will NOT support anything that does not include my fellow Americans in the process.

Get THEIR names and then I will move mountains for you, AND for them!
