USVI State of Emergency declared

Only in mainland America? Not so….In these times of hardships and terror attacks globally, we have all been touched. Crime is also on the up swing and getting out of control. Even here in a place we call Paradise or the US Virgin Islands. A resort of mind and with true natural beauty to spare. Every year we celebrate Carnival. This year was very bad news. Gang and drug related shootings here are at an all time high affecting everyone and our tourism dependency and our very livelyhood. 

3 people were shot during Carnival celebrations. This was the 3rd such case of shootings.

A state of emergency was declared, the governor’s order was attached to a statement condemning the shooting that prompted

police to close J’ouvert early Thursday morning.

“In furthering the protection and preservation of homeland security in light of recent violence in the community during the 61st Anniversary of Carnival, there exists a threat to homeland security requiring a declaration that a state of emergency exists in order to save lives and protect public property, public health and safety and to avert and lessen such threat,” the order states.
