Tropical Storm Chantal 2013 – Updates and Trajectory

According to the latest report issued by National Hurricane Center in Miami at 06:00 UTC, Chantal was located 1,245 km ESE of Barbados. A tropical storm warning continues for Barbados, Dominica and Saint Lucia. Similarly a tropical storm watch is in effect for Saint Vincent.

Tropical Storm Chantal, the third named storm of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season has formed southwest of the Lesser Antilles Sunday night.
As of 03:00 UTC, the center of Tropical Storm Chantal was located 2,800 miles southeast of Raleigh and is moving west at 26 mph toward the Lesser Antilles.
The government of Barbados has issued a tropical storm warning for Barbados and Dominica and a tropical storm watch for St. Vincent.
The government of Saint Lucia has also issued a tropical storm warning for Saint Lucia.
Tropical storm Chantal is expected to produce 2 to 4 inches of rains over the Leeward and Windward Islands, NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida said.
Weather officials have expected more tropical warnings and watches for Lesser Antilles on Monday morning.

Hurricane season in the Atlantic begins June 1st and ends November 30th. Hurricane prediction 2013 report mentions that the entire U.S. coast has a 72 percent chance of being hit by a major hurricane. Four out of nine are predicted to be a major hurricane in 2013 (Categories 3, 4 or 5).
