Get Ready For Another Brutal Winter! Profuse Siberian Snow Cover In October Translates To Big Snowstorms And Frigid Winter Weather East Coast/Northeast US

Weather Forecaster Judah Cohen has found a link between extensive Siberian snow cover in October and the colder and snowier than usual weather on the East Coast and Northeast US.

According to the Washington Post,

Judah Cohen has an impressive track record with his weather predictions, he discovered this weather phenomena some15 years ago.

[Cohen’s method proposes that when snow increases rapidly and over a large area over Eurasia during October, it is a strong indication that a weather pattern known as the Arctic Oscillation (AO) will average in its negative phase during winter. When the AO is negative, it favors cold air outbreaks into the eastern U.S. and western Europe, that can also set the stage for snowstorms. (Conversely, when the Siberian snow is cover is minimal and slow to advance, the AO is favored to be positive, with cold air locked up in the Arctic and mild conditions farther south.]

 Guess what? This past October the snowfall in Siberia was fast and furius.In fact, Eurasia snow cover in October was the second highest since 1972.

Judah believes this correlation he discovered, takes some time to manifest itself here in the US, usually sometime in January .

When asked what other factors he uses in his forecasts he said Elnino plays a  factor and that El Nino is weak right now, also taken into consideration is the “tropospheric precursor” that can influence the strength of the polar vortex.

NASA Climatologist Dr. James E. Hansen. Simply put, Cold air and big snow storms are usually associated with a negative AO.  So if the correlation between the Siberian snow cover and the Arctic Oscillation are true, we could be looking at a harsh winter here on the East Coast.
