‘Monster’ Cyclone Debbie intensifies as it Approaches Landfall

Queenslanders are being warned to brace for ‘a monster’ as Cyclone Debbie barrels ever closer to the state’s northern coastline.

Debbie intensified to a Category 4 system at 8pm on Monday, the Bureau of Meteorology said. The cyclone is forecast to hit the coast near Bowen at 8am on Tuesday at the same intensity, ahead of high tide at 9.44am.

‘This is going to be a monster of a cyclone,’ Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told Ten News. She urged Queenslanders to stay calm and predicted the state’s encounter with the huge tropical storm would be ‘tough’.

Extremely Rare Subtropical Storm May Develop in The Atlantic

A subtropical storm could develop in the Atlantic Ocean this week – something that has only occurred once before in March since the pre-Civil War era.

This potential system is associated with an area of low pressure that has developed well north of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, which has been dubbed Invest 90-L by the National Hurricane Center (NHC). This naming convention is used by the NHC to identify features they are monitoring for potential future development into a depression or storm.

Severe Weather Threat (Tornados and Strong Wind) in Texas and Oklahoma

Golf ball-sized hail and powerful winds are expected to roll through parts of the Southern Plains late Sunday, marking the latest round of turbulent weather across the Midwest and South, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service said the storms are forecast in parts of northern Texas and central Oklahoma, including the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Residents of western Arkansas will also be risk, but to a lesser degree.

Forecasters aren’t ruling out tornadoes but expect the primary threats to be large hail and damaging wind gusts from thunderstorms in Oklahoma, said Patrick Marsh, the warning coordination meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

But thanks to the time of year, he said, the weather system could spare the region from a devastating storm because it lacks a key ingredient: moisture.

High Speed Solar Wind Update
As expected, a high speed solar wind stream containing a sector of negative Bz has reached Earth. Geomagnetic storming is being observed at higher latitudes and this could continue over the next few days. Sky watchers should be alert for visible aurora while it is still dark outside.

NOAA/SWPC Forecasters have issued a G2 (Moderate) geomagnetic storm watch for 28 and 29 March due to the anticipated impact of a recurrent, negative-polarity coronal hole. This coronal hole feature produced G2 (Moderate) storm conditions during its last rotation and is expected to impact the Earth’s magnetosphere in a similar manner.

SUNSPOT GENESIS: A large sunspot is growing in the sun’s northern hemisphere. Only 24 hours ago it didn’t exist, now the active region sprawls across more than 70,000 km of solar “terrain” and contains at least two dark cores as large as Earth.

China’s Space Station ‘Out of Control’ Tiangong 1 could be on a Collision Course with Earth

Chinese authorities confirm the eight-tonne ‘Heavenly Palace’ lab will re-enter the atmosphere sometime in 2017 with some parts likely to hit Earth.

It is predicted that debris will land anywhere between 43° north and 43° north south of the equator, a large swathe of the globe in which almost 90% of human population resides. 

The odds of a specific person being hit are very low, but the chance of someone being hit are relatively high, about 1 in 3,200. 
Eight tonnes of burning metal will certainly also be observable in the sky – and plenty of observers will track the spacecraft, even if its final entry point will not be known until entry occurs.

China may have lost contact with its first ever space station raising fears that it could career back to Earth in an uncontrolled re-entry.

The Chinese Tiangong-1 space station module was launched in 2011 and was expected to be deorbited at the end of its life to crash into the ocean or burn up in the atmosphere.

But there are reports China has lost control of the spacecraft, meaning it could crash back into the Earth’s atmosphere, exploding into molten metal that could be devastating over inhabited areas.

satellite trackers who have been watching the movement of Tiangong as it orbits the Earth believe China may have lost control of the unmanned 8 ton (7.3 tonnes) vehicle. 

Thomas Dorman, an amateur satellite tracker, told Space.com: ‘If I am right, China will wait until the last minute to let the world know it has a problem with their space station. It could be a real bad day if pieces of this came down in a populated area, but odds are it will land in the ocean or in an unpopulated area.’

Severe Storms Bring Softball-sized Hail to Texas, Oklahoma

A severe storm brought gigantic hail to parts of Oklahoma and Texas on Sunday. The storm also delivered heavy rain and winds as high as 65 miles per hour in some areas in the Southern Plains.

Social media users posted images of shattered car windows and comparisons of the hail next to oranges and golf balls.

The largest hail report was from Denton, Texas, where residents reported softball-sized hail of about 4.25 inches in diameter.
