Sturgis Rally Riders Caught in a Sudden Hailstorm in South Dakota (Video)

While some areas experienced smaller accumulations that made roads slick, a monster cell near Belle Fourche and northern Meade County unleashed baseball-sized to 4-inch hail driven by winds exceeding 70 mph. A tornado was confirmed further northeast near Faith, South Dakota, demonstrating the sheer intensity of the weather system moving through the area.
The Meade County Sheriff’s Office issued urgent safety warnings to the hundreds of thousands of tourists in town. Officials used light humor to emphasize a very serious point, warning riders that Mother Nature was essentially “throwing frozen baseballs” at their helmets and windshields.
