“Ass-U-Me”

Once again they’ve given the promotion to a coworker who’s
been there less time and who’s less qualified than you.  Over the years you’ve proven yourself to be
reliable, a hard worker, trustworthy, and able to multi task under great
pressure, yet you’re constantly overlooked for opportunities to further
yourself.  Is it discrimination?  Intimidation? Limitation?  Why is it you’re repeatedly passed up time
and time again?

It’s true “discrimination” still remains in 2014.  Whether it’s because of the color of someone’s
skin, gender, sexual preference or some other form of prejudice, “discrimination”
is alive and present in many workplaces today. 
Many of you reading today’s post have been over looked numerous times
and you wonder why…  Have you ever
considered asking?  You know like, “What
was the key factor that separates you from the selected candidate?”  Asking empowers you with either the “truth”
or a big bowl of “beautiful”.

I’m an African American Man and I must admit my Brotha’s and
Sista’s play the “Race Card” to the uttermost. 
Every time they’re over looked, it’s automatically because they’re
black.  Now don’t get me wrong, there are
times we are discriminated against because of the color of our skin, but not
always.   Then there are the women who
interview for a job and the position is given to a man…  Automatically the person hiring is a bigot and
discriminating because they are a woman. 
Now don’t get me wrong, there are times women are discriminated against because
men fear dealing with the emotional roller coaster, possible sexual harassment
cases, and the uncertainty of who’s going to appear each day, but not always…   

It’s not always “discrimination” that holds us back;
sometimes it’s the “limitation” we place on ourselves… Instead of asking “why”,
we “assume” the worst and instantly place ourselves in the role of the victim.   In
doing this we become angry, disgruntle, and a trash can for every other passed
up individual.  Did you know there’s
power in “asking”?  When you ask, you
receive…  Many people fail to ask because
they fear appearing desperate, weak, unable to handle rejection, or
disgruntle.  Assuming is much easier and
it removes the possibility of our contributions to their decision. 

The truth is…  Always
ask, never assume…  If you want to know
why you were passed up for a job, ASK. 
In asking you will be empowered one way or the other…  You’re either be empowered with the knowledge
to improve what could be considered a “short coming” or with the knowledge you’re
wasting your time and need to move on… 
Stop assuming and ask…  “Confidence”
is a great quality to possess…
