"CBS will be with this story until Holder and Napolitano leave in disgrace..."

With all of the charges of bias and the ‘see-no-evil-speak-no-evil’ approach of the mainstream media since the election of Barack Obama in 2008, many conservatives have noted with surprise the manner in which CBS News has not only reported but stayed with the story of the mind-boggling scandal at the ATF. The agency, which is part of the Department of Justice, allegedly deliberately placed U.S. guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. The network has done at least 2 timely updates since it first reported the story, one of which aired on the CBS Evening News last night.

According to one of the original sources of the story, Mike Vanderboegh, CBS has been under considerable pressure to pull the plug on its reports. Some commentators have suggested that the story lacks credibility, given that other networks, with the exception of Fox, refuse to report it.

Vanderboegh relates one enounter with a network news hound during which the reporter insisted that the 2 who first broke the story of the ATF scandal–Vanderboegh and Examiner’s David Codrea–turn over to them the names of all of their sources. Their refusal has led to the news blackout at the other networks.

CBS, on the other hand, not only took it upon itself to check out the story for themselves but to report their findings based upon their own investigation, using Vanderboegh and Codrea as the benchmarks. This stellar work was accomplished at the hands of CBS News reporter Sharyl Atkkisson. Vanderboegh has been so thoroughly impressed with the manner in which the Atkkisson team has pursued the truth that he declared, ‘CBS will be with this scandal until Holder and Napolitano leave in disgrace and (Rahm) Emanuel is having heart-to-heart chats with a special prosecutor.’

The pressure of the Obama Administration, however, upon mainstream media outlets is considerable. If Atkkisson is forced to back off, then there is no doubt that other networks, namely, Fox, will be so interested in this brilliant piece of investigative journalism that they will gladly pursue the Atkkisson team to continue their work at a new venue.

In short, this story isn’t going anywhere. Too many reputable news reporters are now onto it, and too many people in at least a half-dozen government agencies are involved to keep the lid on it. This is not to mention that there are more, yet unnamed whisteblowers who are waiting in the wings to shed more light on this continually-developing scandal at the Department of Justice.
