Did NASA end contact with the Mars Spirit Rover?
The cold Martian winter was coming on and the solar power available to warm the rover’s innards was decreasing as the Sun’s high point sank lower and lower in the sky. Now, its another summer. And still no transmission from the Spirit Rover despite the Sun being high in the sky.

Because of this, NASA officially announced that they area ending the rescue efforts. The Spirit rover landed in the Martian crater Gusev on 3 January 2004. It was sent to investigate the Gusev’s lake-bed which turned out to be a lava field.
Despite being unable to find the lake-bed it was supposed to investigate, the rover rolled on and found an ancient rock altered by water after climbing the nearby Columbia Hills. Despite the wear and tear, and aging problems, it moved on.
After a while, the rover descended from the hills to discover the remains of volcanic hot springs, it fell into an unseen trap of hot-spring minerals. That’s the last NASA hard from the rover.
Its obvious that the rover was destroyed as the cold damaged its critical equipments and electric components. Its official lifetime is 2625 Martian days. Do I sound like I am saying something about a person?
The other rover, Opportunity, is still active. Its funny that I seemed to consider the life and death of the rover as somewhat similar to a human being’s life.
