How I got rid of my PC problems!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Hi,

I was just thinking about that day when we first got a PC in our home. It has been five or six years since we got this PC. I just thought that you guys should want to hear about how I changed my PC to suit our needs. I just want you to know that I have got nothing awesome here. We only play somewhat old games such as AoM or Warcraft 3 and also to go online and to write documents. Pretty much lame if you ask me. But when I get a decent job and income I will get a good gaming rig.

Anyway, what I want to share is my experiences with this PC. I had to call the maintenance guys from the company to check on my PC for about 20 times so far. Most of the times, it was for reinstalling Windows XP or to partition the hard drive (Reformatting). This was the old story. I have no problems now, after six years that is. This is why I have to write this post now. For all who are having problems with their PC, read on. If you only use your computer for typing, internet surfing, playing small games etc. then you can follow my advice here. For this purpose you will need these small softwares:

  1. Ccleaner.
  2. Auslogics Disk Defrag (Free Edition).
  3. Avira AntiVir (Free Edition, if you are a normal user).
  4. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer (Updated), for browsing safely.
  5. Then a simple process called ‘cleaning the Prefetch‘ folder. It is located in the Windows’ folder (C:\Windows\Prefetch). The prefetch folder stores enormous amount of files if you do not clean it at regular intervals.
The way I do this is simple. After booting up and the screen sets in, I update Avira first, then I defrag using Auslogics and lastly use Ccleaner to clean my PC and scan for registry errors. Then I delete the ‘Prefetch’ folder. I have a shortcut for prefetch folder in the start menu. This only takes ten minutes if you have a decent computer. If you want your PC to be OK, you have to put up with this ten minutes.  Also you should have at least 1 GB RAM and 40-50 GB memory. Also unpick the unnecessary processes from the ‘startup’ in msconfig (Start menu>Run>Type in ‘msconfig’). Also you can get a description of processes from internet. Just do some surfing and decide which processes your computer do not need and stop it. Remember to do it carefully and the most important thing here is the antivirus software.
There are somethings that I should say. And you must remember them as well. Sometimes, the most simplest things cause the biggest problems, esp. when it comes to PC. Remember these points:
  • I’m only talking about a home user.
  • I’m talking to the users of Windows XP/98.
  • I’m talking about Personal computers.
I know that many of you guys know this already but I just want everyone to know how I got rid of my problems with PC. And I really hope that these tips would be of some use to you guys, who are new to this.
Bye!
