Immediate Food Assistance Needed for 500,000 Haitians
The United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti said “immediate” food assistance must be provided to more than 500,000 people, including 81,600 children suffering from acute malnutrition.
The mission, known as Minustah, blames the situation on crop destruction stemming from drought and Tropical Storms Isaac and Sandy, which brought strong winds and flooding to the Caribbean nation last year.
Minustah said in a report that food insecurity affects 2.1 million Haitians but that 500,000 of these people require immediate attention, adding that $144 million must be invested in 2013 to meet those needs.
The document said that 81,600 children aged five years or younger suffer from acute malnutrition and that 20,000 of them suffer from life-threatening severe acute malnutrition.
It noted that some 358,000 people still living in refugee camps set up after the devastating earthquake of early 2010 face deteriorating living conditions and are more vulnerable to natural disasters.
Minustah also warned about recurrent outbreaks of cholera among the displaced population.

Give a man a fish he will eat for a day, teach him to fish and he will eat for a lifetime. In other words, teach those people how to grow their own food. The United States took its time to take care of those Hurricane Sandy victims yet will send $thousands if not million to Haiti. If they cannot start taking care of themselves by now, then something is very wrong. Either their leaders are stealing from the treasury or they do not care about the people. Either way, it is the people of Haiti problem. Not the U.S.
America needs to stop being the world’s “Honey Pot”. We need to take care of our own FIRST before anyone else. We have Americans who suffer every day without proper diets and medical care. The people who lived through Hurricane Sandy are still having getting help from the government. Come on Washington, get your priorities in order. Washington whines that there isn’t enough money, Hell, this is one reason why.
When Bush and Father of the year Clinton were overseeing the Financial Aid to Haiti a Billion dollars in cash disappeared. Then Bush and Clinton closed up shop. If you are interested in helping these people in Haiti force the two thieves to give back the money they stole.

Im thinking of starting a business that people invest in that helps these people through supplying nutrition and food and vitamin supplementation. Half goes into stock half directly to nutrition aid. So whatever company is worth is also the amount of aid given. As aid goes up value of company goes up. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet in? Who else?

the grains that could nourish these people were fed to farm animals instead of humans that need it. STOP harming animals we don’t need to eat and there won’t be any hunger ANYWHERE! It takes approx 2500 gallons of water and 16lbs of grain to produce one single pound of beef. Now I ask you, unless you have an extremely low IQ which would feed more people, 16lbs of grain or 1lb beef???
It is not only Haitians who need food assistance here in the U.K we are now feeding families who have nothing 126,000 families, young and old people have now been given food assistance from “FOODBANK” a charity set up to stop hunger when benefits are stopped by the Government, Churches and volunteers are also helping families in crisis as the economy gets worse and worse and the Government cuts more and more hitting the poorest but looking after the rich.
