Woman faces 15 years for shooting NYPD detective with BB gun
A New York woman has been charged with multiple felonies and is being held on a $1 million bond after she allegedly shot a plainclothes detective in the head with a BB gun.
Tiara Ferebee, 24, of 43 Andrea Court in Riverhead, Long Island is facing charges of first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon as noted in a statement Monday from Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown. If convicted on all charges, she could receive 15 years in prison.
According to court documents, New York Police Department Detective Adam Jangel, in plainclothes, was sitting in the driver’s seat of his unmarked police vehicle with his partner at the intersection of 168th Street and Jamaica Avenue last Wednesday evening when they heard a pop and Jangel started bleeding from the head. Rushed to the hospital, he was found to have a BB in his forehead between the skin and bone.
Video surveillance of the crime scene showed Ferebee in the back seat of a brown colored Nissan with the window open as it drove parallel to the driver’s side window of Jangel’s vehicle at the same time he was shot. She was taken into custody Saturday.
As noted by the New York Post, Ferebee was refusing to cooperate with investigators but has posted that she has a “short temper” on social media.
“A few inches lower and the detective could have been blinded by the pellet,” said Detectives’ Endowment Association president Michael Palladino.
