Plane passengers witness heartbreaking moment widow brings fallen soldier home (VIDEO)
Passengers on a flight that landed at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport last week witnessed the heartbreaking moment a grieving widow met the casket which contained her husband, Green Beret Shawn Thomas, who died in a vehicle accident while serving in Niger, Africa.
Lisa West Williams captured the encounter on cell phone video and, after getting permission from Thomas’ wife, Tara, shared it via Facebook .
“It was an honor to fly home with this PATRIOT!” Williams wrote in the post. “God bless his wife and family.”
According to Williams, Tara thanked her for sharing the video and said she wanted people to realize this goes on every day, that there are many men and women who come home in a casket because they have made the ultimate sacrifice for us all.
The video has been viewed more than 9.5 million times.
Thomas, who was a father of four, was on his eighth deployment and received a number of honors, including two Bronze Stars and four Good Conduct Medals.
